my thoughts so far - softbody3d is a clunky and editor-heavy process, having to separate meshes and then bone attach + pin points - rather difficult to script a dynamic system around i also haven't gotten good results yet, but ran out of time so i'll have to do another pass at some point before i commission any 3d work #godotengine #gamedev #indiedev

has anyone used softbody3d in #godotengine 4.5+ for like shawls or coats? i havent worked much with soft bodies before and not used to the workflow to begin with so if anyone has tips or good resources to learn from i'd appreciate it 🫡

@Nobu__11_ @naranciagaming it cant mess with art direction bc its a tool used by devs to realize art direction we've only seen the first public demo, if they can get the performance reasonable it could be quite transformative for graphics fidelity if you love games, its something to get excited about

@SlothyLabs @naranciagaming It still massively fucks with the art direction of the games You know we have eyes and can look at how it looks compared with the game normally, right? And this is their promotional material, it's the technology at its best, and it's still awful

@Nobu__11_ @naranciagaming I agree with some of these criticisms, especially training models on their artwork/content without consent but I disagree with gatekeeping and luddites that blindly rage against anything ai neural rendering is a far cry from a midjourney prompt

@Nobu__11_ @naranciagaming this isn't a snapchat filter it's an sdk that gamedev engineers need to build in support for and work into their graphics pipeline so its a tool to make better art with... just like any other graphics rendering advancement

@sm92467 @naranciagaming sometimes people educate themselves, work hard, change the world and make money doing it sounds rad to me idk why you hating on it, unless you hate knowledge success and money

@sm92467 @naranciagaming he is, and was awarded the IEEE medal of honor which afaik is the highest award you can get in electrical engineering so yeah

@Rahll the term "filter" would be false advertising more than anything imo people would think its something much simpler to slap into their game, like a snapchat filter over their frames but it takes engineering work to get good results, ie accurate motion vector buffers etc

"It's not a filter," then they go on to describe what sounds a lot like a filter with extra steps. It's like they think filter is a degrading term that shouldn't be applied to their super technology. "It's not a filter... It's AI." Give me a break.

@XecularO @digitalfoundry i'd say it falls right into their realtime gen ai use disclosure guidelines steam will continue to update their ai policy, but the integration of gen ai into games isn't going to be worth trying to delineate pretty soon imo neural rendering is just the latest leap

@SlothyLabs @digitalfoundry The label will probably still be there. DLSS is a Nvidia service rather than a part of the games that support it

DLSS 5 brings next-gen quality, photo-realistic lighting to GeForce RTX 50 series. We've been hands-on with four games and here are our first impressions: youtu.be/4ZlwTtgbgVA

@MR3Dev @LukeStephens i think it's kind of both, no? detailed asset creation vs just-in-time asset detailing there are pros and cons to each imo, but it certainly could be the start of a paradigm shift

@LukeStephens The main problem is it changes the character. This is not enhancing, this is replacing.

This is an impressive feat of technology. Sure. But it also looks like AI slop in its current form. Eventually, I'm sure it will get better, but all we can judge is what we see right now and what they chose to promote it with...

@digitalfoundry very interesting direction from nvidia two 5090s is pretty brutal though, i think getting buy-in on a tech that eats this much if your frame budget will be a tougher sell than nvdia is seemingly touting one things for sure, say goodbye to "made with gen ai" labels on steam lol
