🚨Vote “killing” South Carolina redistricting was 29 FOR redistricting and 17 against. Read that again. 29 senators support redistricting! So how did it fail? Because Governor @henrymcmaster refused to call a special session forcing the Legislature to call themselves back—that requires a 2/3rds vote instead of simple majority. LA City Council just told LAPD they can't pull anyone over anymore for expired tags, dead tail lights, cracked windshields, busted mirrors, illegal tint, loud exhaust, or missing plates. Why? Because out of 72,000 stops in three years, 86% were Black or Latino drivers. So if your car is busted, you're now invisible to the LAPD. Congratulations. This rule is intended to reduce discriminatory policing and build community trust.

Faruqui sympathetically quizzes Allen's public defenders about their client's daily rec time, his access to the Bible, and his family's ability to visit. (Can't wait for J6ers to weigh in on this.) The judge is obsessed with why Allen is separated from general population in DC jail (he had been put on suicide watch then suicide prevention) in an area WITHOUT WINDOWS. After covering J6 trials for 4 years--including reading desperate pleas to judges for relief from the DC gulag's inhumane conditions including no access to attorneys, discovery evidence, religious services, medication, even a shower or grooming needs (many did not shave for months)--I find Faruqui's demands for kid glove treatment for would-be assassin inexcusable. So too is his reference to "analogous conduct" between Allen and J6ers:

NEW: I have just received the transcript of the court hearing last week before Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui related to the pretrial detention conditions for Cole Tomas Allen, who attempted to assassinate the president and others last month. Faruqui--who signed arrest warrants in hundreds of J6 cases and denied pretrial release some nonviolent offenders (Couy Griffin, for example)--acted more as Allen's public defender than a federal judge handling a dangerous criminal who shot at Secret Service and planned to kill the president and members of his administration. His comparison between Allen and J6ers is not just infuriating it is baseless. He openly misrepresents the events of J6 and the defendants before him. "PEOPLE GOT CLOSER TO KILLING THE PRESIDENT THAT DAY?" Excuse me? And no--"dozens" of people did not carry firearms. The only person who used a firearm inside the Capitol was Lt. Michael Byrd, who killed Ashli Babbitt. This sort of judicial dishonesty--a brazen attempt for headlines--must be addressed by the DOJ because we know Chief Judge Boasberg will do nothing about it (in fact, he believes the same)
