For a number of years, more than 20 years ago, I worked for a Pakistani owned business and lived in a Muslim dominated area of Manchester. I understand why Nick feels this way, and those railing against it in the name of diversity are ignoring that Islam is aggressively intolerant of other religions. I have many years of personal experience with both immigrant and British born Pakistanis. There was no real difference. Islam is the one true faith and all others are "kafir". It's a far more exclusive religion than others, there is no interest in diversity of faith. You are Muslim, or you are "kafir". This was highlighted to me on the day of 9/11. It was early in the morning, around 9am, and cheers started echoing down the corridors. Word started to spread and they were all grinning and clapping each other on the backs. These were men and women born and raised here for the most part. The owner wheeled in a big CRT TV and 30-40 of them gathered around BBC news laughing and cheering like Pakistan were in the cricket world cup final. It is not hard to see why large public prayers by followers of a religion perceived as hostile to your very existence can feel less like worship and more like an assertion of dominance. I'm sure there are many good, tolerant Muslim people in this country who mix Western ideals with the muslim faith. People that consider themselves British among all else. But I learned that day that there are less than you think.
Nick Timothy MP@NJ_Timothy

Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

Sheesh! The "new power" trick again. Once again, we want the cheapest power, not the cheapest "new power". I hate these loathsome creeps who spend their time thinking up ambiguous phrases with which to trick the public.
RenewableUK@RenewableUK

We have published a new stakeholder briefing paper examining the reasons why expediting the roll-out of renewable energy is the best way to ensure lasting energy security and lower bills 📢 The paper sets out exactly how: 📈 Renewables are the UK’s cheapest, fastest and most secure source of new power, cutting reliance on imported gas, whose price is set internationally. 💷 The Government spent £44bn protecting households during the 2022 energy crisis. Over the same period, renewables on fixed price Contracts for Difference paid £500m back to consumers. ⚡ Wind is consistently cheaper than new gas-fired generation even at 'normal' gas prices: onshore wind is half the cost of new gas turbines; offshore wind is 40% cheaper. On today’s record gas prices, new gas generation would be more than double the cost of new on or offshore wind if sustained. 🤝 The wind industry is also an industrial growth engine, supporting 55,000 jobs, rising to 110,000 by 2030, with 2,000 companies and 160 factories across the UK and the potential to add £25bn through domestic manufacturing. 👍 80% of the public support wind energy, and just 4% oppose. Reeves doesn’t want to face the reality that her own policies are killing the economy. Brexit is an easy blame - regardless of truth or facts. Just as the EU was an easy thing to blame when we were members. One of the best things about Brexit is that our own ministers can’t pass the buck to faceless foreign bureaucrats. Even if they try - this is on them. And the failing economy is on Reeves.
Ross Kempsell@RossKempsell

It is total unutterable rubbish that Brexit has caused 8% GDP damage to the economy - even remain economists would admit that is silly, Reeves should be ashamed to spread this nonsense, it makes her look economically illiterate and doesn't inspire market confidence

Iran’s rulers jail dissidents, crush women’s rights, arm terror groups—and somehow get described as “reasonable” on the BBC? This isn’t nuance. It’s normalization of a brutal regime. Words matter. Especially when they sanitize reality. thejc.com/news/bbcs-john…

Most British people do not want members of any faith ostentatiously praying en masse outdoors at a national landmark. It is intimidating and it is not our culture. You have had one Christian arrested for silently praying outside an abortion clinic! Be gone, Starmer!

They want you to believe that IPCC represents the views of 1000s of scientists. But that is a BIG LIE. Some FACTS about IPCC’s latest report, AR6: 13 chapters Average of 13 lead authors per chapter The chapter on human attribution has 11 lead authors Average of 2 or 3 lead authors per section That’s not 1000s. That’s not 100s. That’s not 10s. That’s 2 or 3. Oh, and I almost forgot, most all of those scientists work FOR the governments who run, and have complete control over the IPCC.

The wilful misunderstanding in this post says everything about the people behind the “Islamophobia” definition. The point is not that Sikhs have danced on Trafalgar Square. Or that the Passion Play has been hosted there. Neither is the point that Muslims gathered on Trafalgar Square. The point is that mass ritual prayer in public - in this case next to a church - is an act of domination. So is the public call of the Adhan, which explicitly denies other religions including Christianity. That is the difference. And yet neither Dominic - nor the Labour MPs who were instructed by No10 to attack me last night - will engage with the substance. Instead he claims he knows my personal views when we haven’t talked, and incorrectly describes me as a spokesman for the Free Speech Union. People like Dominic can’t work out why the ideological world they built is falling apart. They never pause to wonder if perhaps they might have got things very badly wrong.
Dominic Grieve@dominicgrieve_

This is a very odd post from a Conservative who says he believes in freedom of expression under law and is a principal spokesman of the Free Speech Union. I appreciate that he does not like Islam and there is no reason why he should. As a Christian it is not my faith. But the use of Trafalgar Square ( with permission) for religious events Christian and other goes back a long way. There have been prayers and hymns, chants and religious events performed there in the past. If such an event 'shouldn't happen again' it raises the question of whether this is to apply to all religious events or just to Muslim ones. If to all, then we are moving like France to imposing secularism as a norm and it is contrary to our national tradition and does not seem to have helped develop social cohesion there. If just to Muslims then it is an act of discrimination against them without any lawful basis. To achieve it you would have to enact discriminatory legislation targeted at Muslims. Is this what Nick Timothy is advocating ?

All five members of the Working Group tasked with drafting the Government’s Islamophobia definition — now repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility” — have troubling links to Islamist organisations. This shocking revelation is exposed by FSU Director of Policy and Research @DavidRoseUK in his latest investigative briefing. It begs the question: who on earth will be our new Islamophobia tsar?
