Hey Tiger fans, let’s have a serious conversation about building a championship team. First things first: the Tigers have already waited too long on Tarik Skubal. This should have been handled last offseason. You either trade him or you sign him. Doing neither was the worst option, and now you’ve backed yourselves into a corner. A week ago, before Torres and Carpenter returned, I thought this team was cooked. Now? Different story. The lineup looks like a big-league lineup again. The pitching is stabilizing. The division is weak. If this roster stays healthy, the Tigers absolutely have a shot to win the division. Which is exactly why the Skubal situation needs to end. Sign him. Pay him what he’s worth. And while you’re at it, start working on Riley Greene too. You can’t hand out massive contracts based on projection and then hesitate when it comes time to pay players who have already proven they can perform at the highest level. Tarik Skubal is the face of this franchise. He’s the leader of this team. He’s coming off back-to-back Cy Young-caliber seasons and every day this drags on, it becomes a bigger distraction. Scott Harris started this clock. First with Colt Keith. Then with another massive commitment based largely on projection. Fine. If that’s the philosophy, then apply it consistently. Take care of the players who have already done it in the big leagues. Sign Skubal. Sign Greene. Stabilize the roster. Stabilize the conversation.
