The Olympics haven’t sex-tested athletes for 26 years. We have no idea of the true number of male athletes who have taken women’s medals in the last quarter century, but here are: two golds 🥇🥇 one silver 🥈 one bronze 🥉 we do know about.

in the entire history of the olympics (more than 10,000 athletes each summer games and 3,000 each winter) since 1896, this would have applied to one (1) woman who did not place in anything

NEWS: Bob Costas supports the IOC's decision to ban trans athletes from women's sports at the Olympics. "Common sense is not transphobic...this policy is common sense." The host of 12 Olympic games told @CNNTheStoryIs that trans people should be treated with "dignity and respect," but there's a "reason why there are men's and women's sports." "There is a reason why no trans man who was once a woman and has become a man has ever competed successfully with men in the Olympics." Full interview: youtube.com/watch?v=v6kUgo…

@SmithMarshi They’re not male athletes. They’re intersex or those with DSD who were born female

Around six and a half years ago, @FondOfBeetles said to me 'basically, we need to get proper sex testing back at the Olympics'. My response was, roughly, 'FFS, Emma, no chance!'. Yet here we are. 🍻

In 2012, Caster Semenya was retrospectively given a gold medal when the female athlete who finished in first was later disqualified for doping. The women who have lost to Semenya and the other male athletes, however, will never receive the medals they rightfully deserve.

After today's excellent decision by the IOC.,if the Rio 2016 women's 800m. was held today, the 3 medallists in my photo. Wambui, Niyonsaba & Semenya would be barred and the medals would go to Canada's Melissa Bishop, Poland's Joanna Jozwik & GB's Lynsey Sharp @AthleticsWeekly

Today's ruling by the IOC means a welcome return to fair sport for women and girls, but I'll never forget the scandal of Paris 2024, when people who consider themselves supremely virtuous and progressive publicly cheered on men punching women.

Official statement: We are elated by the announcement from the International Olympic Committee to strengthen protections for the women’s category and ensure a level playing field for female athletes. A genuine female category at all levels of sport is essential for fairness and for the continued participation of women and girls. When athletes compete on equal terms, it builds trust and inspires the next generation. The simple, non-invasive measure of SRY screening offers a solution that is now essential to maintaining integrity across female competition. This marks a return of female sport to elite female athletes in Olympic competition and reaffirms the importance of fairness, safety, and equal opportunity worldwide. We call upon the @NCAA to follow suit.

I welcome this announcement and thank the @iocmedia for restoring dignity, fairness and safety to its policies regarding the female category - rooted in common sense, facts and science! 👏 This achievement would not have been possible if it were not for the tireless campaigning and hard work of many women rights defenders, athletes, experts and scientists! Congratulations to you too!
