People who want to blow off Hantavirus because COVID turned out to be no big deal: COVID had a fatality rate of 1%, concentrated among the elderly. Hantavirus has an incubation period of up to 8 weeks and kills 30-40% of people who show symptoms. Whole different beast. It’s not pandemic yet and probably won’t be, but if it were, the rational action would be—lockdown

People aren’t taking this seriously enough:
- the Dutch just asked the exposed to self-isolate at home but no restrictions on their household members (Dutch chronic inability to comprehend germ spread strikes again), not clear what other countries are doing
- up to 8 weeks incubation period with even a short pre-symptomatic transmission window is mathematically a very bad combination
- someone just tested positive asymptomatically
- the widow of patient zero took a flight to Johannesburg while very sick, with gastrointestinal symptoms, no news about people on that plane or quarantine measures (again, see 8 weeks incubation period).
This is a disease with a 30% death rate, even in best case scenario it’s already almost guaranteed to create death clusters - it was absolutely, 100% warranted to isolate the people from the ship centrally.
Instead they are playing Russian roulette and hoping for the best.

if the period of peak infectiousness is 48 hours before and after the onset of symptoms, and people have just begun to test positive and symptomatic, that means anyone who cross breathes during travel could be affected. this is what we were worried about
