Dear Rebels Community, We’d like to share a significant update on the Rebels project. We are releasing today a massive set of updates, including a stunning Ultra Mode (It's Live! Try it Now!) and open-sourcing of the customization infrastructure, ahead of our complete transition of the project to the community after running into a lack of time & funding to continue building the future of Rebels. Our goal was to create the best-looking NFT collection in the world and to build customization infrastructure for Rebels. Today, we’re releasing both a new mode for the collection and the entire rendering & customization infrastructure in open-source for anyone to use, improve, and evolve - both for 3D and patches. You will now be able to create your own custom Rebels color palettes, patches, 3D assets. For this transition, we’re sharing all of the following: - Ultra Mode for free - Move to Arweave - Open-sourcing Rebels 3D Rendering infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/… - Open-sourcing Custom Patch Creation infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/… - Open-sourcing Patch 3D Customization infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/… - Open-sourcing 3D Customization infrastructure: github.com/rebelsbynight/… - Release of all 3D files for the collection, patches, and lore scenes (releasing this week) - Open-sourcing of the Rebels website (releasing this week) 2) On the move to Arweave - We moved all the Rebels images & metadata files to Arweave. - The NFTs are now guaranteed to be available after we shut down our cloud services & buckets. 3) On open-sourcing infrastructure - We are open-sourcing the 3D rendering infrastructure to enable anyone to re-create the collection from scratch. - We’ve modified the complex rendering process to ensure that it can run on MacBooks with less than 16Gb of RAM. - We are open-sourcing the patch creation and customization infrastructure so that anyone can create 3D patches with their own NFTs and apply them on their Rebel. - We are open-sourcing the infrastructure that allows people to update the backgrounds and balaclavas to the picture of their choice. 4) On the Rebels.art website - The website will now be available for anyone to deploy and run, locally or on a firebase account. - Anyone will be able to add features to the website on the GitHub repository for anyone else to leverage whether you want to create a branded marketplace, more customization features, you name it. 5) On the release of all 3D files - Obviously we want to make sure that the 3D files are available for anyone to use, improve, tweak. - Whether you want to create new palettes, new characters in the Rebels world, or leverage the existing environments, you are now able to. - This release includes the 3D files of the main collection with each assets and color palettes. The only licensing constraint for the collection’s 3D files is that they can only be used for the Rebels project - no other NFT project. - This release includes the 3D files of the patches with every picture, material, and position for each asset and for each zone of per asset. The only licensing constraint for the patches’ 3D files is that they can only be used for the Rebels project - no other NFT project. - This release includes the 3D files of all the 3D scenes of the Rebels lore so that anyone can create more content around the Rebels world. (releasing this week due to how massive the files are) We are infinitely grateful for the opportunity to be part of a community filled with genuinely amazing people. The tremendous support since the very beginning has been heartwarming. Although we've always been transparent about Rebels being a side-project and not a full-time job for the team, we've dedicated the last year and a half to building what we believe is the most advanced customization infrastructure in the entire NFT space. With this update, we're hopeful that many talented and creative individuals will be able to customize their Rebels to their liking and create new experiences, add patches, design frontends, or even introduce new 3D assets. The control of the Rebels smart contracts will be relinquished to a multi-sig of the core community members (Rebels Council?) that has already been selected so that more modes & features can get built for Rebels. 🥷
