📢 Looking for 1 PhD student (3 years) in Vienna! We have an open position for someone to tackle MASSIVE 3D datasets and turn them into instant visuals for display, editing, and interacting! You will be supervised by Vienna's Dr. Schütz and myself (remote). Link in comment.

@taiyasaki If only there was an overview of the individual techniques out there, how they work and when to choose which! Like a tutorial or something

@FPallopides @HildeKuehne Second this. "-schaft" is very similar to English "hood" (neighborhood, Nachbarschaft). So Wissenschaft is like "knowledghood", and a Wissenschaftler is a knowdledgehoodler.

@HildeKuehne "knowledge creator" actually would be "Wissen(s)schaffer", from Wissen (knowledge) & schaffen (to create). The "-schaftler" thing always struck me as somewhat endearing; in southern German, "(g)schaftln" means to busy yourself in a slightly ridiculous way.

Random thought: in German, researchers are actually called “Wissenschaftler” which literally translated actually means “creators of knowledge” … and I think that’s beautiful 🤩.

A student came to me today looking defeated. “The idea failed. No good news.” I smiled and said: “That’s exactly why it’s called re-search.” He left motivated again. Sometimes being a supervisor just means reminding people that failure is the job. Proud of the team.

I'm about to go live on Twitch to tier list every f-divergence. No spoilers but long time subs will know that symmetrized KL divergence is gonna get absolutely mogged by Jensen-Shannon divergence.

Makes sense. Matching and 3D reconstruction are inherently iterative computations; this nice paper gives hints on how DUSt3R's transformer achieves that. Now we can get on with figuring out how to do it tens or hundreds of times better/faster with a more specific architecture.

Introducing Generative View Stitching (GVS), a non-autoregressive sampling method for length extrapolation of video diffusion models. GVS enables collision-free camera-guided video generation for predefined trajectories, including Oscar Reutersvärd's Impossible Staircase (1/9).

Our approach to interactive reconstruction uses distributed GPUs & coarse-to-fine optimization, with photorealistic results that scale effortlessly. The BASKET-Multiview tests fidelity in true 3D, making it an exceptional benchmark for evaluating 4D scene reconstruction quality.
