@TommyThornton Exactly. People are clueless. They think that income stream never stops. With rate hikes and all people will lose jobs, hence the mortgage delinquency. Remember, the next big short is corporate bonds (or debt bomb). It's unreal how people don't see this coming.

@CAndreisen @TommyThornton What makes you think they'll continue to make $120K? Didn't you just hear many tech companies are laying people off in mass? I bet bunch of them were 6 figure incomer. People like you are so 1 dimensional. They think that income stream never stops. Unreal.

@TommyThornton The "consumer" is not a monolith. The higher end household earning over $120k annually (account for over 50% of consumer spending) is still doing fine and is not behind on their bills. Households earning < $70k are the ones struggling, and delinquent on their bills

@LukeGromen True but only in hindsight. I am sure back then nobody was saying it was OK to hike the rate because debt/GDP was not >100%. We may very well weather this now and 20, 30 years later, in much worse economic condition, people say it was only 125% in 2022 vs. 300% now.

Under Volcker, US debt/GDP was 30%, deficit/GDP was <2%, and the US had not been de-industrialized & financialized. Today, those %'s are 125% & 6%, & dependent on rising stock prices. If Powell tries to be Volcker in an attempt to avoid being Burns, he will become Ben Strong.

@ginacarano @usopen @DjokerNole Let's remember. Most anti-vax people are country people, working people, who are much more susceptible to racism, sexism, conspiracy theories, and cult. That's just a sad fact. Serbia is a 3rd world country so not surprised. You don't see this from Nadal or Federer.

Happy 20th Birthday @SpencerKSchiff. It's hard to believe that you're no longer a teenager. My little boy has grown up. But you're still young and hopefully have a long life ahead. Despite your temporary obsession with #Bitcoin, I'm still proud of the man that you're becoming.

@SpencerKSchiff @PeterSchiff Your response to your proud father is just dad you're wrong about bitcoin? You're never gonna be as successful as he is and you're much uglier than he is. At least be mature and show some love to your well respected father, even in your tweets.

Powell has his tenses off. We’ve SEEN softening in labor market. A record number of Americans working two FULL-TIME jobs. That’s why we’re not seeing a rise in initial jobless claims. The CARES Act paid sufficient subsidy with an extra $2,500/month PLUS rent. Today? Not so much

The winner of this year’s #USOpen will be… A Vaccinated player. Perhaps not the best player. But exactly the outcome the event sponsors wish to have #Djokovic

Let’s be real. MLB NEEDS a #Dodgers vs #Yankees World Series. The amount of star power along with the passion from the 2 best fan bases in the sport would do wonders for the game.

@michaeljburry I truly believe that their intention is to stop the pandemic that could go out of control. Played the worst case. Had to. Didn't work out the way they thought it would, but no nefarious evil plan to control the populace. They don't need it. They're already doing that.

@AliWolfEcon Ali is pushing the narrative that everything's fine. Ali, I thought you were better. You're no different than money greedy realtors. God's watching you. So are your parents. Be moral. This woman is better off waiting for the price to come down and you couldn't say that.

Just talked to a relator in Vegas. He had shoppers earlier this year that when rates rose, they got "DTI'ed out" and when rates went back down a few weeks ago, he called them and said you got to move now. Shared a story of a single mom that was able to lock in at 4.6% 3 weeks ago

The @Dodgers are hotter than hot. They lead the NL West by 19½ games, can easily surpass the franchise record of 106 wins and have a shot at eclipsing the 2001 @Mariners all-time record of 116 wins. They need to chill, @BillPlaschke writes. lat.ms/3pJWoEH
