Marathon’s world is brutal and does not want you to uncover its secrets. & that’s the point. Every aspect of the game is designed to tell you that you do not belong in this place. It asks you to claw its secrets from its cold dead hands. The difficulty is the ludonarrative.

@MyNameIsByf This best describes what an extraction shooter game is like in a living universe that has actual lore. What I don't get is people (not gamers) criticize how "hard" it is don't make sense when Dark Souls punishes you playing but Marathon does the same & that's wrong?

@Sigman13 @SasatoreS @MyNameIsByf That's how games use to be, going back to games like Diablo or even the Street Fighter competitive scene. You need to get good that's it, you need to learn the universe & it's rules. What it sounds like is you want something that holds hand or is "easy" to hop in.

@SolidShrimp @rubynesoberi Dark souls isn't designed with accessibility in mind though. It's only accessible in the sense that the controls are simple and many people like to play it. Mario 64 is accessible AF but also being good at Mario 64 is likely even harder than being good at melee or fortnite.
