Warner Bros. spent $178 million producing Edge of Tomorrow (2014). Despite a slow start at the US box office, it became a massive global hit and cult classic, partly due to the "Live Die Repeat" rebranding for home video.

Chuck Norris held a 183-10-2 record and was a 6x world champion in full contact bare knuckle karate. On top of that, he beat heavyweight kickboxing world champion Joe Lewis 3 consecutive times and also had a brutal sparring match with undefeated kickboxing world champion, Bill Superfoot Wallace, that lasted an hour and a half. According to Wallace, they practically stalemated and "beat the crap out of each other". Chuck was trained in kickboxing/boxing by Benny The Jet Urquidez and was also trained in BJJ by the Gracies and Machados for 20 years. Even being able to submit Carlos Machado himself on occasion. Chuck had a 315 Ibs bench press at 180 lbs bodyweight and was said to have a grip back in the day that nobody could escape from because he was so strong. Even Jean Claude Van Damme said he'd never fight Chuck Norris, despite being a kickboxing world champion himself. Chuck held a 10th degree black belt in Chun Kuk Do, a 9th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, an 8th degree black belt in Taekwondo, a 5th degree black belt in Karate, a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a black belt in Judo. Rest in peace, Chuck!

@habib_sammouh @RMBee It's part of a larger discussion of post-structuralism and reader reaction. Yes, a text apart from it's context can be (mis)understood all kinds of ways. That is different than purposefully choosing to read a text differently than its known intent by severing author and text.

@RMBee How is he wrong though? The author can intend all he wants, but at the end of day the message that actually reaches the audience is what matters. We have a funny saying in Arabic about something incomprehensible: the meaning is at the heart of the poet.

Tom Hardy admitted he cried after reading online criticism of his appearance in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) “Bat-fans want me to be over 220 pounds. 400 pounds. I’m like, dude… I’m human. I read things & I cry. I just try to be the best that I can be.”

I read the first hundred pages of The Road last year, and read the first hundred pages of Blood Meridian this year, and in both instances, gave up, because the books never clicked. Lyrical writing, but the characters are reduced to way down Maslow's hierarchy, and the tone is so relentlessly bleak, with almost no humanity breaking through, it was difficult to feel anything besides the flint clicking against the cold steel in the overwhelming darkness. I know many of you love it, but to me, it's overwrought, overstylized, and overhyped.

About to start Blood Meridian for the first time. Give me all your best advice.

Everybody hating on me but name a single thing wrong with Luke in TLJ (real problems, not nitpicks) that isn't already in or a logical next step from The Force Awakens.
ZZZZZZIFFSTER@IFFFMEISTER

The Last Jedi is NOT the problem with the sequel trilogy (thread) - Force Awakens is *actually* what cooked the story. It is the real culprit that made things bad, because it sent us back to the status quo of the original trilogy, which was a very stupid decision

@IFFFMEISTER @le_prince_russe I agree with most of what you said, but NO every bad thing in TLJ is not due to TFA. Rian has stated many times he wanted to subvert expectations. Kathleen Kennedy giving him complete control without any idea where the story would go in episode 9 was fatal.
