Prof. Anarchy is a surprisingly intimidating villain as unlike most Speed Racer foes, he speaks calmly, slowly and doesn't use euphemisms. "You can join us...or die."

Rewatching "Gang of Assassins" because it's another one of those Speed Racer episodes that was genuinely really ambitious and GOOD for the time, and it's so clear that there are multiple references/homages to it in the film. Exhibit A, this. at FUJI. AKA, THE FUJIYAMA GRAND PRIX.

you’d literally have to show this to people and not tell them it’s Power Rangers, bc for whatever reason the name itself has a stigma that tells casual audiences it doesn’t mean anything
meanwhile people were sweating their heads off, stressed out and WORKING working

Did you know Speed Racer actually started in Japan in 1967 as Mach GoGoGo? 😃
It only ran for about a year, but when it came to the U.S., it stuck around for years in reruns and ended up becoming one of the first anime shows many Americans ever saw. 🏎️

This is my single favorite line from the SPEED RACER movie. I think it sums up Speed's passion, drive, and joy so perfectly, and it absolutely informed my take on the character.

There’s several shots in the first racing sequence like this that are almost completely divorced from the Spy Kids aesthetic that feel like a different, more grounded film entirely. Makes you wonder what this would’ve looked like had the Wachowski’s forgoed the goofiness.
