@Mynorthwest As a transit rider and bike rider living and paying taxes in Seattle for 20 years, this is a great idea. People driving their cars into central Seattle and clogging up my roads should have to pay a premium.

OPINION: The mayor of Seattle, making transportation policy for a corridor carrying 30,000 vehicles a day, has never once sat behind the wheel as the person responsible for getting somewhere on time in traffic. mynorthwest.com/kiro-opinion/s…

@fugitivemama @Mynorthwest I don't own a car and am sick and tired of car drivers taking my tax dollars for road repair and maintenance. I'm tired of property owners raising my rent and taking more and more of my hard earned income. It's a two way road there mama.

@Mynorthwest She perfectly encapsulates WA state. Apartment dwellers vote to raise our property taxes, bus riders vote to make driving cars unaffordable while funding failing public transportation, Takers vote to punish the Makers.

@Rooster1k @jasonrantz 38% growth in population in city of Seattle over last 20 years. That's about 187,000 more people than in 2006. Not to mention suburbs. Times change friend and there's simply not enough room for us all to be driving around central Seattle in cars like there uses to be.

Well, I grew up here and we used to drive downtown Seattle and it was like every other Metropolitan City. Dense traffic, but navigatable. Now, after 20+ years of the war on cars in Seattle, you have a hodgepodge of one way, one lane, no lane, confusing mess. The cure, stop voting in folks who want keep cars out of downtown. But.... I am guessing you probably are onboard with your current City Council and Mayor in office and can't/won't see my point.

@RAYVSUNSHINE @jasonrantz Please no Debra don't deny us your presence in central Seattle. You seem like such an open minded and fun person that contributes to the rich culture here. Stay in your dusty suburb with your nice wide roads and 20 min drives to get milk.

@jasonrantz Seattle is already fucked up. We have to watch for cellphone walkers, bike lanes, bus lanes. Trying to push vehicles out downtown unless you are servicing the building or goods and services. I avoid Seattle like the plaque as so many others do.

@BrianManzo20 @jasonrantz You've accidently concluded on a very effective solution for dense central city areas. Just not feasible for everyone to drive cars all the time with the population numbers we have.

@jasonrantz Doing this to try and force commuters onto buses that don’t serve the areas they live in. Since the city hates cars so much then just get it over with and toll any car that enters the city.

@CoreysName @jasonrantz @bcunningham006 You are beholden on city services with or without your personal car so that's a silly point. Look at large cities with effective and robust mass transit and tell me that doesn't work better than driving a car around central Seattle.

@Rooster1k @jasonrantz Who is driving their cars around dense central Seattle like it's the 1960s. There's just no room for everyone to have a car. Fast and reliable Mass transit is the only solution. If you disagree, what is your better idea to reduce traffic congestion here?

@jasonrantz They HAVE to force people to use and want more mass transit. Their bank accounts depend on it. So... they have to make it as painful as possible where ever they can. It will get worse for residents of Seattle and their businesses! Ya get what ya vote for!!!

@jasonrantz They did the same thing to Rainier Ave Northbound and It’s totally backed up now and worse than ever. And the local residents don’t care…. They drive the lane anyway. You’re correct in that the city of Seattle wants to make driving your vehicle as painful as possible.

This is a by product of a Democrat majority over the past 40 years, and as that party has embraced Marxism, it has destroyed what made the job market here so dynamic. They are forcing out the big players while punishing the little guy. The "millionaires tax" is a Trojan Horse to pass an illegal and unconstitutional income tax on all Washingtonians, and they don't care who they hurt.

People have no idea how fragile the job ecosystem in Seattle is. It used to be that you could spend your career hopping around a few companies and do very well. Big tech isn’t hiring. Nordstrom isn’t a booming business, Sur La Table isn’t hiring people, Costco isn’t the same it was. Our startup funding is the lowest it has ever been. I fear those days are over. It’s going to be a tough decade for Seattle. Imagine a governor that built homes and a Mayor that welcomed jobs to our city instead of one that chased them out. You can’t close income gaps without income. And who’s left to foot the bill? Anyone who comments on this that they don’t like the flavor of the coffee is missing the point. Say that to someone who lost their job. Time to organize and vote for public safety and a business friendly environment. seattletimes.com/business/starb…

Homeless are more than welcome with open arms by Seattle and Portland, though. Why? Because the cities can get more state, federal and NGO money. There is ZERO appetite in these lefty cities to solve homelessness. It's too much of a cash cow. All at the expense of the residents.
