This scene was manufactured in an ethically vacant laboratory to barrage sapients with so much undesirable stimuli that it leaves them blindsided and demoralized every time they try to list what's wrong with it. Even as I type this out, my fingers waver from the fog of defeatism.

As much as I loved playing Campaign Evolved this cutscenes just isn't it. She's acting like she's a main character or something 😭😭 #Halo #HaloCampaignEvolved

@snakey125 Everything about the final cutscene is delivered with disdain for the original. It's performed like a prerecorded irreverent roundtable, right down to the framing and timing to ensure maximum quippiness when it should be nothing but tension. Cortana's face is beaming throughout.

@Spartinel A lot of the new voice acting is fucking terrible. Jen sounds really deadpan for a *lot* of her lines like someone took a baseline recording and said "this is good"

I would like to apologize, not because I've defamed Campaign Evolved, but because I didn't have the character count to mention that they've botched the choreography and pacing too. Other cutscenes are far worse than what's seen here. Reception of this demake will be a bloodbath.

While Combat Evolved Anniversary cinematics dared to ask, "How badly can we ruin the visuals and animations?" Campaign Evolved dares to ask, "Can we also ruin every line delivery and camera angle too?" Stunning work; can't wait to see The Iconic Keyes Magnum™ in future demakes.

@DoenathanJon Learn to read, please. The implication is that the pattern was fine when it wasn't plastered everywhere tastelessly like it was in Reach and elsewhere in the industry. Also, you've sent pictures of the updated MCC/HO suit, not the Halo 3 one, which does have a subtle hex pattern.

Can't think of anything more emblematic of Xitter's worthless auto-janny than giving me an inauthentic account suspension weeks ago with a days-long appeal, only to now force a hand scan (generated videos work btw); where upon I get a notification that a bot followed me.

The faddish Marathon simulacrum experiment seems to be going as expected. I take it the persistent network errors that have rendered Destiny 1 nigh-unplayable for 4+ years without end-user meddling still aren't getting fixed? What a way to leave the flawed vestige of True-Bungie.

@SandyofCthulhu One of the more infuriating aspects of 343's blunderous tenure is their pilfering of concepts from the old story bible and hacking them into incongruent messes that mire the original ideas and mythos. Your contributions are likely a victim of such; deformed beyond intent.

Okay let me make this clear. From 2005-2009 I was the guy in charge of the Lore on the Ensemble Studio project "Titan" which was an MMO explicitly set during the Forerunner times, before the Halos were set off. This was done WITH THE BLESSING of Bungie, who sent us all sorts of information so we could get things right. We also had permission to add our own stuff but Bungie would have to approve it. And YES THE FORERUNNERS WERE HUMANS. They were super-elite humans, and Earth was specifically a world which puzzled them because there were humans on it and they couldn't figure out how humans got there. So they protected and preserved Earth. Which is why the Halos didn't kill us. That said, Bungie is obviously free to change their backstory however they please. But in the early 2000s, Forerunners were absolutely human.

@ELI_DEADGUY @NoahexMachina No Patrick, humans were never forerunners.

When Halo Campaign Evolved was debuted last year, I thought it looked awful, and I had no desire to buy it... BUT now with the reveal of skins for the lowest common denominator! A sequel to Reach's worst-designed level! AND an ugly Cortana! ...I still have no desire to buy it.

@sneedofast41854 Your counterpoint involves a scene of a leading naval officer on the front lines, dual-wielding SMGs. Listen to the video I attached. Bungie was short on time, valued player agency, and didn't have the resources for such complex cutscenes. You've been playing shonen mil-sci-fi.

@Spartinel It simply is not. Player agency isnt relevant to this discussion when they did ultimately depict action sequences such as Arbiter attacking Johnson & Keyes, or Chief running from a glassing beam Halo has anime inspirations but it was never ever like this. Military shooter first

The amount of people saying this is too anime-like serves as a bleak reminder of how long ago it was that Halo was overtly—and tastefully—inspired by anime. It's been an ourobouros of ever-muddied waters since 2011, helmed by cultureless dullards with no vision beyond subversion.

@sneedofast41854 Halo never had anything like this because Bungie prioritized player agency in action; It's why the Arbiter vs Brute cutscene was ditched despite showing said shonen style. The exaggerated nature, however, is carried over into animations across all games and media until CEA.

@Spartinel Halo never ever had anything like this in any of the mainline games and for good reason. Is inspired by anime ≠ Is shonen anime. It was always a military shooter first.

@32nds I played through the 90s trilogy for the first time in a fit of spite after the 2025 trailer and was blown away by how great Marathon 1 is. I've tried playing the classic DOOMs, and they've done nothing for me, but Marathon 1 is easily the best FPS I've played since Titanfall 2.

I do not "get" the new Marathon game. At all. I watched some streams and was totally baffled. BUT... it did make me nostalgic so I downloaded the FIRST Marathon game and was not prepared for the total muscle memory overload. It was like the last 30 years compressed into a single frame and I was back in the college computer lab again. I played that game so much, you guys. Anyway, Marathon 1 has the WORST intro level of any game I have ever played. It is purposely designed to make you quit in angry confusion. Maybe that is why the new one is a spiritual successor?
