@HugoatedChavez Just because Israel and the US lie doesn't mean Iran is honest. And they genuinely seem to have significantly decentralized their military response in significant ways to avoid decapitation, so just because nobody at the top ordered a strike doesn't mean it wasn't one of theirs.

“There may be NO good airstrike option.” Andrea Stricker says the Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility may be too deep to destroy from the air. “That could force a special forces operation — going inside the complex to eliminate it once the regime is further degraded.”

@OunkaOnX Netanyahu: They spoke of hundreds of towers falling in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa—but the towers that are falling are in Beirut and Tehran. We have transformed the Middle East beyond recognition.

Qatar's PM: "This war needs to stop immediately. Everyone knows who the main beneficiary of this war is." Qatar's PM told the world, this war serves someone's interests. And that someone is not in Tehran, Washington, or Doha — it's in Tel Aviv.

@Detasseled You have to realize if millions of Mexicans started starving they'd show up at the border. Like even if you genuinely don't care about humanity, it would be a border crisis like you've never seen before.

@balajis So less fertilizer means less food for China and Muslims? Also, no oil for Middle East economies? Gosh darn it.
Balaji@balajis

I'm going to make some obvious points. (1) Blowing up all the oil infrastructure in the Middle East is an insane idea, and may well result in a global economic crash and humanitarian crisis unrivaled in the lives of those now living. We're talking about the price of everything everywhere rising, from food to gas, at a moment when inflation was already high. All of that will be laid at the feet of the authors of this war. (2) The antebellum status quo of Feb 27, 2026 was just not that bad, but we're unlikely to return to it. Expect indefinite, long-term, ongoing disruptions to everything out of the Middle East. (3) Also assume tech financing crashes for the indefinite future. The genius plan to get the Gulf states caught in the crossfire has incinerated much of the funding for LPs, for datacenters, and for IPOs. Anyone in tech who supported this war may soon learn the meaning of "force majeure" as funding gets yanked. (4) Many capital allocators will instead be allocating much further down Maslow's hierarchy of needs, towards useful basic things like food and energy. (5) It's fortunate that all those progressives yelled about the "climate crisis." Yes, their reasoning about timelines was wrong, and much of the money was wasted in graft, but the result was right: we all need energy independence from the Middle East, pronto. It's also fortunate that Elon and China autistically took climate seriously. Now they're going to need to ship a billion solar panels, electric vehicles, batteries, nuclear power plants, and the like to get everyone off oil, immediately. (6) It's not just an oil and gas problem, of course. It's also a fertilizer problem, and a chemical precursor problem. Maybe some new sources will come online at the new prices, but it takes time to dial stuff up, particularly at this scale, so shortages are almost a certainty. That said, China has actually scaled up coal-to-chemicals[a,c] (C2C), and there's also something more sci-fi called Power-to-X[b] which turns arbitrary power + water + air into hydrocarbons. But all of that will need to get accelerated. I have a background in chemical engineering so may start funding things in this area. (7) Ultimately, this war is going to result in tremendous blame for anyone associated with it. It's a no-win scenario to blow up this much infrastructure for so many people. Simply not worth it for whatever objective they thought they were going to attain. But unless you're actually in a position to stop the madness, the pragmatic thing to do is: scramble to mitigate the fallout to yourself, your business, and your people. Israel is publicly urging Iranians to revolt, but privately admits protesters would likely be “slaughtered.” Israeli officials say Iran’s regime is “not cracking” and will “fight to the end” If protests erupt, the IRGC “has the upper hand” and would crush them. Despite this, Israel still hopes for an uprising and wants the U.S. ready to support it. U.S. officials now also acknowledge protesters face extreme risk from armed security forces. Source: WaPo

Imagine being so completely low-IQ, and having such a dysfunctional mental model of the world, that you believe the US launched a war and never considered an exit plan. You should be neutered and banned from ever reproducing so as to not propagate your entirely defective genes through the human race.

It is becoming increasingly clear that there is no realistic off-ramp to the current confrontation with Iran. Tehran is trying to create a new strategic reality—one that deters future attacks on Iran. That is why its conditions for ending the conflict are likely to be extremely tough. At the same time, the U.S. and Israel are riding the wave of operational success and still seem to believe that pressure may eventually force the regime to back down. All of this is happening while it becomes increasingly clear that there was no real strategic planning for an exit strategy before the campaign began. But even if Washington and Jerusalem pause the campaign, there is no guarantee Iran will stop—unless Tehran believes the new strategic framework works in its favor. And that is the core problem. There is almost no trust between the sides, which makes it extremely difficult to build a mutually accepted mechanism to stop the escalation. The result is that ending the confrontation may prove far harder than starting it. #IranWar

“The Kurdish plan” in Iran sounds to me a half baked muse that was suddenly called into action as Trump’s initial decapitation move didn’t produce the results he wanted. I’m sure it could be useful to the US military if there is any ground op, but still not really a banger

Ok but Netanyahu didn’t “box Trump into attacking Iran”. Trump flunkies are saying this is what happened to cover their asses politically but let’s not do MAGA’s work for them by letting them dodge responsibility for the hell they’ve unleashed. No one forced Trump to do anything.
Dylan Williams@dylanotes

Seriously, you are embarrassing yourself. Rubio admitted Netanyahu boxed Trump into attacking Iran. Dozens of lawmakers are rightly calling it out. Trying to paint them as hostile to Jews is exploitative and gross, and frankly undermines the fight against actual antisemitism.
