STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU (GCFR) ON THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ADMINISTRATION, MAY 29, 2026 My fellow compatriots, Three years ago, you entrusted me with the sacred responsibility of leading our beloved nation at a defining moment in our history. I accepted that responsibility, fully aware of the magnitude of the challenges before us, but also deeply confident in the resilience and potential of the Nigerian people. Today, on the occasion of the third anniversary of our administration, I speak to you not only as your President but also as a fellow citizen who understands the sacrifices many families have made in recent years and shares your hopes for a better Nigeria. When this administration assumed office, our nation faced profound economic and structural difficulties. Mounting fiscal pressures, unsustainable fuel subsidies, declining revenues, exchange-rate distortions, rising debt-servicing costs, insecurity in several parts of the country, energy supply constraints, and declining public confidence in institutions all threatened our progress. At the height of the subsidy regime, Nigeria was spending as much as ₦18.4 billion daily to sustain petrol subsidies—over ₦4 trillion in 2022 alone—resources that could have been invested in roads, healthcare, education, housing, and critical infrastructure. Multiple exchange rate windows and forex arbitrage created massive distortions, with Nigeria losing more than ₦8 trillion over three years to rent-seeking and speculative practices. The situation demanded urgent and courageous action. Difficult but necessary decisions had to be taken to stabilise the economy and prevent a deeper national crisis. The easy choices would have been politically convenient. But leadership demands courage, especially when the right decisions are difficult. Had we refused to act, our nation would have drifted toward fiscal breakdown, worsening poverty, and severe economic uncertainty. Together, we chose reform over ruin and decisiveness over hesitation. We chose long-term national recovery over short-term comfort. These decisions came with sacrifice. The rising cost of living triggered by our measures placed enormous pressure on families, workers, and businesses. Young people searching for jobs felt discouraged. Many questioned whether these difficult decisions would lead to a better future. I remain deeply conscious of those sacrifices, and I assure you: your sacrifice has not been in vain. And today, I can say with confidence that Nigeria has stabilised and is moving forward again. Across the country, visible progress is taking shape. VISIBLE PROGRESS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH Our economy is now more competitive and better positioned for sustainable growth than it was in 2023. Public finances are improving. States and local governments have greater resources to invest in their people. Investor confidence is growing. The stock market is booming, with the All Share Index rising from 53,000 and market capitalisation of N30 trillion in 2023 to a record All Share Index of 250,000 and market capitalisation of N160 trillion this year. Companies are declaring record profits and dividends. Critical infrastructure projects are advancing at an unprecedented scale. Over 2,700 kilometres of highways and major roads are under construction, reconstruction, or rehabilitation, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, the East-West Road, and many rural access roads. Significant sections are already completed or nearing completion, improving transportation, reducing travel time, boosting regional trade, and creating thousands of jobs. Rail modernisation projects are ongoing to improve connectivity, logistics, and economic integration across the federation.

It is my pleasure to announce that we have officially commissioned the landmark Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, and it is now ready for public use. The project is a multimodal transport hub designed to accommodate more than 340 buses at once, powered by sustainable infrastructure and connected to our growing network of electric buses. The facility is named in honour of Prof. Nnenna Nnennaya‑Oti, the courageous INEC Returning Officer in the 2023 governorship election, whose integrity and patriotism remind us that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary results by simply standing for the truth. Her name on this terminal is not just about one person, but a tribute to all electoral officials, security operatives, party agents, and citizens who resisted intimidation and defended democracy. With 20 electric buses already in operation and more on the way in the coming weeks, the project signals our bold vision for a modern, safe, and sustainable transport system in Abia. The facility is also supported with independent power and water systems to ensure uninterrupted operations. In my address titled “Raising the Bar”, I stated unequivocally that we have moved beyond the era of small ambitions. We refuse to be boxed into margins that underestimate our strength. This principle underpins all our undertakings. I extend special commendation to the contractors, Planet Projects Limited, for a job well done in delivering this landmark facility. I also appreciate the dedication of the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, the SSA Transport, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, and their team for the critical role they played in bringing this vision to reality. I call on all residents and members of the host community to take ownership of this facility, to maintain a clean environment, and to guard against vandalism. This terminal belongs to you, and its success depends on your care. I also urge all Abians to pay their taxes regularly. Development cannot be sustained without collective responsibility, and every naira contributed helps us deliver the future our people deserve.

Two Africans wearing ‘hi-vis’ vests, dressed like it’s winter in the middle of a heatwave, started intimidating and abusing a young lady, demanding she leave the station. They had no ID, they could literally be anyone. Is this the type of people you employ, @MorsonGroup?

@Terry10121960 @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup The requirement to have IDs on (for which they were wrong in this instance) is not the same as showing any random person who demands to see it, especially when done disrespectfully. They could have them on and still choose not to show her. It's Celsius, by the way. Not "cercus"

@SpiceyLexy @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup Thats rubbish and you know it … they should have there ID visible or at very least on them if they are acting on behalf of an organisation (TFL) that’s contracted agency staff next you’ll be telling us that they were undercover agents in Hi-Vis vest and hoodies in 35 cercus 🥶

@bmstewart2004 @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup It's very unlikely that I'd find myself in this situation I'm not clothed in superiority complex and would not look down on anyone. If someone comes to tell me what to do and I feel the need to identify them, I wouldn't do so aggressively and expect them to identify themselves

@SpiceyLexy @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup As usual, you have no idea of the laws of the land you have invaded. She has absolutely every right to ask them for their ID if they are giving her orders as if they're some type of police with government authority.

@Terry10121960 @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup Anyone have a right to ask anything they want, but security officers are not legally required to show their IDs to anyone other than the police Maybe if she had spoken/asked respectfully, they would. But no, she went full throttle aggressive because... "Two Africans"

@SpiceyLexy @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup I think you find she has every right to request there ID they’ve approached this particular person demanding her to vacate the TFL platform & station they’ve been rude and abusive towards a TFL paying customer. The very least they can do is back it up with ID rather than insults.

@bmstewart2004 @TheNorfolkLion @MorsonGroup You think 2 "random guys" (whom by her video have not been aggressive towards her, btw) would just leave their homes, head out and do jobs they're not employed to do? She was aggressive and yes, they're not required to show her their ID. She could call the police if she wanted

Yesterday, May 19th, in Abuja, I attended the Presidential screening organised by our party, which took over two and a half hours. They carefully reviewed all my documents, including my degree certificates, NYSC credentials, and age declarations. During the process, I also addressed questions regarding my vision for a new Nigeria and the type of leadership our nation urgently needs right now. Following this, I was cleared and received the presidential nomination form I had previously paid for. I would like to commend the screening committee, led by former governor Sam Egwu, for their thorough and professional approach. Additionally, I appreciate our party's leadership for upholding the democratic process. A New Nigeria is POssible. - PO

Do you ever just say “hi” or “hey how are you?” to a black / brown cashier and they remain silent during the entire transaction? What’s up with that? Happened to me 3 times this morning

Call him out for his old GEJ's tweets but Adekunle Gold is NOT wrong for taking lawful actions against an e-diot who posted such vile about his daughter for a few clicks Two truths can coexist but evidently, the majority of Twitter users love to jump on the bandwagon
