Knicks offense is crazy good. You need elite finishing guards that can attack Brunson in the pnr. Their wings are going to lock shit up. Getting that switch your only option. Defensively, rotations have to be crisp cuz they can go 5 out

The San Antonio Spurs primarily used heavy gap defense and Stunts to disrupt Shai and the OKC offense rather than doubling him This forced early pick ups and pass outs + made other OKC offensive players create more instead of take wide open threes I detail how all of this worked in the video below ⬇️ youtu.be/hBPd6LP6CVY?si…

@nmzhoops also, I assume they will put OG on Wemby, but imo that opens up Wemby lobs, if KAT is on Wemby, Wemby can draw fouls on him which is kinda key, cuz I don't think Mitch can match Wemby's minutes

@Splashman2k2 i think shai certainly would fox isn’t as healthy, love harper but he’s a rook, and i think there’s ways to protect those guys vs castle bc he’s not as threatening of a pull-up shooter

Let’s see how it plays out, especially with injuries, but I see a Rock-Paper-Scissors dynamic between OKC/SAS/NY. SAS > OKC: No paint drill, smother SGA, make inconsistent shooters beat you NY > SAS: Make SA guard to a man w/ 5-out OKC > NY (?): Shai comes alive, hound Brunson

Because Jalen Brunson is on the verge of leading the Knicks to their first Finals appearance since 1999, it really got me thinking about AJ Dybantsa. Efficient self-created two-point scoring paired with functional three-point willingness and playmaking can still anchor elite offenses. When a player consistently pressures the paint, maintains efficiency, manipulates help defenses, and creates secondary advantages for teammates, they have the potential to become a real and sustainable offensive engine.

@Splashman2k2 @RK_DRAFT don’t matter, Brunson/KAT can both punish a drop coverage. Shai doesn’t have the PU3 to make chemby step up

Stephon Castle only had a 1.8 STL% in college and is playing incredible defense on the league MVP right now Getting stocks is important, but defense is so much more than that and you have to watch the games to see the other stuff

Tonight the Spurs' help discipline was much improved from Game 3, a big reason for the win. Here you can almost feel Stephon Castle's instincts telling him "help on SGA... help!!!" but he stays disciplined and lets Vassell/Wemby handle it, with no easy pass for SGA. Good stuff.
Spurs Stats & Video@spursstatsvideo

In Game 4, how the Spurs perimeter defenders help on SGA will be key. On too many SGA drives the Spurs perimeter help has felt like overcommitment, turning situations that are relatively under control into simple SGA passes + easy looks from 3.

@JBBHoops1 imo Spurs gotta play Wemby 38+ MPG rest of the series, only overhelp off bad shooters, send doubles when he's baseline/has no passing outlets, dominate the rebounding game and just not turn it over. also pressure ball every time. turnovers and non Wemby mins the key fix for them

@JBBHoops1 i really don't get what the Spurs were doing the last few games, helping off of McCain 1 pass away or double teaming SGA every play. You already have Wemby at the rim and good 1on1 options why let their role players go off? maybe they didn't want OKC to figure out their D idk

@JBBHoops1 i picked the Spurs, I stand on that pick fs. OKC ball handling is limited now without dub and Ajay, and the Spurs finally stayed home on the shooters, and they have the personnel to make SGA consistently work 1on1 (Castle/Vasell)

The Spurs defense is fascinating to me. They just plant Wemby as the low man around the rim and then pre-switch and communicate to keep him there. It’s almost like a zone since Wemby isn’t really even guarding anyone. Gotta be difficult to execute but they do it so well.

@aryh21 His scoring diet and numbers all screen he’s not collapsing defenses to even create playmaking windows like sga does . Is extremely hard for bigs to become better offensive players than guards

Spurs offense literally collapses with Wemby off the court and people act like he’s not one of the best offensive players in the league

This series, Wemby has scored over 30 points twice before Shai has done it once.
