This week’s reading centres have @SACTVDSB students reading maps, completing logic puzzles, learning and playing new card games as well as learning to tie a variety of knots. @TVDSBLiteracy

English

This month students are exploring all the ways we read other than a novel. Today we learned how to play some new board games by reading the instructions. Reading with a purpose. #TVDSBLiteracy @SACTVDSB

English

Warmed my heart to see ELLs interacting in new ways with peers as students enjoyed I Spy as part of today’s soft start @SACTVDSB

NOODLE NUGGET TAG - a slower paced tag game. Each player balances a nugget on top of the noodle. One color noodle is it. If tagged or the nugget falls off, complete 5 jumping jacks (tagged included). #physed

Ss sewed spirit bears in recognition of the comforts and culture taken from children at residential schools and to demonstrate the deep connection and respect Indigenous people have with nature. So grateful to collaborate with @dcadieux5 in the LLC @SACTVDSB!

English

Used manipulatives to represent our 4 monolingual Ss, 18 bilingual Ss and 4 trilingual Ss. Domino pips on the left of the tile represent the number of letters in the language name and the pips on the right showing the number of speakers.
Outside the box thinking @SACTVDSB!

English

The grade 5s and 6s @SACTVDSB have enjoyed checking in with a variety of 'scales'. We all get a good laugh when someone imitates their picture instead of typing the number.

Gender Reveal party 🎈 + scavenger hunt with students this week by locating the stuffie hidden in the school through a series of yes or no questions to deduce the location. So much fun and students guessed room location in 6 guesses! #babyboy

English

We expanded our vocabulary through games @SACTVDSB. Our read aloud has many challenging words. Students listened for words they did not know and created their own 'balderdash' (1 real definition and 2 fake). For each person they tricked they got a point! @TVDSBLiteracy

English

I can see these 3 picture writing prompts as a great low floor, high ceiling activity. Accessible for so many students including ELLs. I am sure the students would also love creating their own 3 picture series for us to use. @TVDSBLiteracy thejohnfox.com/2016/05/pictur…

While walking to the gym today, instead of the usual 'What are we playing?' a student excitedly told me about the latest plot developments in his partner novel. He remarked, "It is getting so good!" Thanks @dcadieux5 for helping the Gr.8s find engaging novels to read together!
English

Today I learned so much about the journey of brave individuals who traveled to London Ontario to escape slavery! @SACTVDSB @MrsFletcher13 @Spratt_Molly

Hey #teachertwitter & mathies
I'm trying to challenge an advanced group of my S's with this cylinder volume problem.
The answer I get differs from the webpage answer...only slightly, but enough to make me question my skills.
What do you get?

.@NASA says the minerals and rock deposits at Salda are the nearest match on earth to those around the Jezero Crater where the spacecraft landed and which is believed to have once been flooded with water

As @NASAPersevere explores the surface of Mars, scientists hunting for signs of ancient life on the distant planet are using data gathered on a mission much closer to home - at a lake in southwest Turkey reut.rs/2O7fNAn

@kimanders0n There is a cool international art installation. Part in Dublin and part in Toronto that depicts Irish emigrating to North America during the famine. It would be cool to hear what the studnets would create to connect their home countries and Canada. docs.google.com/presentation/d….
English

@kimanders0n I shared some slides incase anything interests you! Some decoding activities using the Irish alphabet sounds, Irish sports, trivia etc.
English

@kraekerc @kimanders0n We're cognizant about doing games that involve students using individual equipment so that germs are less likely to spread via shared balls/equipment. All of tvdsb has the same PE covid measures documents.
English

@kimanders0n @Spratt_Molly That is so cool and looks like a lot of fun. Many teachers in some Teachers Support Facebook groups are still saying they can't have PE inside, so you're really fortunate you can.
English

We played the scoops version of bench ball today and I couldn’t stop laughing! I love gym class with this group 😂 Thanks @Spratt_Molly for the scoops activities! #sactvdsb #grade6
