Yesterday, I was driving and walking through a part of town where just about everyone was an addict. It's always been that way, but has only gotten worse.
What we're doing, it's not working. It's not working for the humans enslaved by their addiction and mental health issues. Nor is it working for the community, which feels unsafe.
But I don't know what to do.
Addiction is rarely just about the drug. It's about trauma. Mental health issues. Circumstances.
I hear that one has to want to actually overcome the "habit" in order to "kick" it. Forcing someone into rehab won't stick long term, if they don't. But as a whole, we lack resources to address these issues.
Psychologists are in short supply and expensive. Psychiatrists are almost impossible to see. Social workers and counsellors are a bit more accessible. But all of this is tough even for someone who isn't suffering from addiction on top of everything.
It's easy to walk by and ignore, or just avoid going to areas where you might see something unpleasant and troubling... But these people are part of our society too. They are not incidental. They are someone's sister, daughter, son, friend...and it affects them too.
We can't just ignore. But what do we do? What has worked in other parts of the world?

"Iranians want to be white" It's literally the opposite. I have never in my life heard an Iranian genuinely claim to be white or Western. It's not a real thing. This phenomenon only exists in the heads of weirdos online who hate us. Iran is however surrounded by wannabe whites.
