The saddest thing in Kampala is how many people are trying their best and still struggling quietly.

Our addiction to shoddy work and our aversion to rigor and excellence are our nation’s biggest failings. You see it everywhere: in our buildings, our government, our events, even our journalism.

Being fit helps both your mind and body. You can do like 300 activities, sleep for 2.5 hours, wake up, lock in, lock out and then lock in again without getting fatigued.

we live on a planet where trees warn each other of danger through underground networks. where octopuses dream. where elephants return to the bones of their dead and stand over them in silence. where bees communicate through dance, showing each other where to fly. where flowers bloom...where crows remember human faces -especially those who were cruel to them - and pass that memory on to their young. where ants build entire cities. where cats purr at a frequency that can help heal bones. where forests, after fires, grow flowers first.

Anyone trying to build anything that can attract serious capital will possibly have to do it out of Uganda at this rate. A terrible environment for anyone trying to raise capital or do sensible impact work. The need for self preservation will kill everything else.

I work as a virtual assistant, and I have mostly encountered Nigerians and Kenyans in this field of work. Are Ugandans highly employed, or are they just uninformed?

The older you get, the more you realize luck is mostly exposure. If you sit in the same place, have the same routine, talking to the same people, nothing new really happens. You have to tackle the world to win. Travel more. Talk to people.

If you want to see how deep Uganda has sunk, walk into the First Pharmacy outlet just outside Mulago National Referral Hospital. And if you want to see more, continue to Friecca Pharmacy in Wandegeya. The two places are crowded like a market, filled with desperate Ugandans who have nowhere else to turn. Abandoned by a broken system, they are forced to queue for hours, clutching crumpled notes for overpriced drugs that should be free, while the system meant to serve them rot in negligence and greed. Uganda deserves better.
