I have spoken to UPRS (@UPRSOFFICE) Board Chairman Martin Nkoyoyo (YoYo), who has explained why Weasel (@RadioandWeasel) received only Shs285,000 in royalties, as well as the basis upon which the payment was calculated. Perhaps the debate should move beyond "How much did Weasel receive?" to "How do we build a royalty system that generates meaningful earnings for all creators?” @NCFUganda | @URSBHQ | @unmfederationug | @eddykenzoficial

I don't speak for @UPRSOFFICE, but I know a thing or 2 about how royalty distributions work. A few questions are worth asking before we jump to conclusions: 1. This particular distribution covers music usage from 2025. So, how much of Weasel's music was actually played and logged during that period? Was the usage attributed to his solo catalogue, or to works under @RadioandWeasel ? 2. UPRS only distributes royalties for works that are formally registered with the CMO. How much of Weasel's catalogue is currently registered and eligible for distribution? These are important questions because royalty payouts are influenced by music usage, registration, licensing collections & distribution data, not simply by an artist's popularity. I however thank Weasle for sharing his concern!

The post-literate age is upon us… Marshall McLuhan: “The liberal world is literate.” Put another way, the illiberal world is illiterate. Great piece in The Atlantic.

Wow, what a journey! Cheers to 18, @Swangz_Avenue. 🥂 Back in 2012, I loved watching the @Zagazillions ft. Sera collaboration (I Had a Dream.) Then 12-year-old Yung Zee, redefined "cool" during our junior high school days. Same days of the Buzz Teeniez Awards & Buzz Leavers' Rock. @juliuskyazze | @benonswangz & entire team at Swangz, Well done!

The cruelest part isn’t that we became strangers. It’s knowing that if our eyes ever meet again, a part of us will still recognize the home we were forced to leave behind! Solace in Solitude ❤️

UNPOPULAR OPINION: I don't agree with govt (@Educ_SportsUg) decision to suspend school trips. The issue has never been school trips themselves. The real problem is the safety of the transport used, the condition of the roads & the competence & accountability of those entrusted with our children's lives. Shouldn't the focus be on enforcing strict safety standards before any school is cleared to travel? Roadworthy vehicles, licensed & well-rested drivers, proper inspections, reasonable travel hours, & emergency preparedness? These would address the actual risks. In Buganda, there's Olugero of "Ekiiso ky'embuzi," which reminds us not to punish the easier target while ignoring the real cause of the problem. School trips are an important part of learning. They expose learners to new environments, complement classroom education & build social & practical skills. If the concern is safety, and it should be, then let's fix what is making the trips unsafe, not eliminate the learning opportunity altogether!

Suspending School trips/tours is not the complete solution to the incompetence from the government. Let’s have working transportation systems and let this cut across all institutions, a lot of our problems would have been cut short.

Uganda is the only country where you don’t have to write or know how, to be called a “blogger.” Is this part of language evolution in our pop culture or it’s a result of digitally amplified ignorance?
