the papers authored/co-authored by Reich show widespread mixing in India until about 1900 years ago, when a genetic "freezing" appeared. but isn't that simply the result of society becoming more organized and settled, so people no longer moved around as much?
many 2000+ year old genetic samples from Scandinavia are migrants from Central Europe or even farther away. only around 1200 years ago did Scandinavian society become stable enough for the gene pool to "freeze". modern-day Scandinavians are largely descendants of this 1200 year old genetic freezing. surprisingly the prisoners and slaves taken by Vikings didn't contribute much to modern Scandinavian genetics.

One of the coolest stories I heard from David Reich about the interaction between genetics and human culture: The caste system was powerful enough to essentially 'freeze' Indian genetics for thousands of years, almost completely stopping the process of genetic mixture.

"it's not really that deep" Tamazight wasn't recognized as an official language until 2011 because muslim pan-arabist were fighting against the native population's right to exist and practice their own culture. It's ALWAYS that deep when it's a colonial language.
