This is actually a good jump off point to talk about prison sentencing. Because, honestly, I think the public doesn't understand how awful prison is and thinks that anything short of total cruelty is a slap on the wrist. And prosecutors and the sentencing guidelines cater to that

@dilanesper $11 billion is not a normal theft. That's an amount that looks like the budget of a small state. Normal measurements of property crime punishment fail for it. His prison time is less than 1 day for every million dollars he stole.

But most people in prison are not that. And the public's predilections for extremely long sentences can produce the situation where we are continuing to incarcerate for long lengths of time people who are no longer dangerous and have long since been adequately punished.

It’s bad and getting worse by the day. Litigation is the first to cause problems because it goes in front of a judge immediately. The real fun will be litigation down the line when people are fighting over things like AI-drafted contracts.
