On March 25, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution formally recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity. This was an official acknowledgment of a historical injustice that affected millions over several centuries. #UNResolution

In a world where narratives are often written for us, @StandOutAfricaa #IAS organised Africa Day in Ottawa that marked a shift-Africa speaking for herself, boldly, brilliantly, unapologetically! She's not waiting for a seat at the table. She's hosting it.

@StandOutAfricaa 🧵13/ A deliberate effort must be taken by the Government of Uganda to appoint the right people — individuals with lived diaspora experience, deep policy understanding, and genuine commitment to our people abroad. This is no longer a ceremonial position. It’s a national priority.

🧵11/ At @StandOutAfricaa, we’ve heard too many stories of burnout, betrayal, and brilliance going to waste. If we truly value our diaspora, let’s protect them. Let’s build for them. Let’s listen to them. Because without them, Uganda stands to lose more than money.

🧵1/ Good Catch @PyeparFaisal, @StandOutAfricaa has held focused, deliberate conversations on the realities facing the African diaspora-Remittances are always top of the agenda- while they build dreams, they also expose deep cracks. Let’s unpack this. 👇🏾 #Uganda #DiasporaVoices
Engineer Faisal@PyeparFaisal

Ugandans abroad are about to suffer... While yesterday's @DailyMonitor paints a bright picture of growing remittance inflows, I can’t help but feel like we’re missing part of the story. Yes, more money is being sent home. But so are the number of excuses, "projects", and unfortunately, relatives who see this money as free lunch. Remittances are saving lives, but they’re also funding betrayal, abuse of trust, and in many cases, dreams that never make it past the foundation stage. Now don't get me started on the new visa renewal hurdles for the Ugandans traveling to work in the USA (renewal every 3 months). There’s a growing fear that more countries might follow suit, tightening regulations on the very people sending this money home. Did you hear how the tax man also wants some fo that money now? YEAH... So yes, let’s celebrate the $1.4 billion+ in remittances Uganda received last year, but let’s also ask: Are we doing enough to protect the people behind these transfers? I pray the upcoming 8th Annual #BankingConf25 answers these questions too, since the theme is around remittances. We can’t afford to only see the fruit. We need to examine the tree, roots, rot, and all. What’s y'all honest take on this? 🤔

@StandOutAfricaa ❓Why is diaspora engagement still treated as ceremonial instead of strategic? ❓Where is the diaspora seat in national planning and budgeting? ❓What happens after the money arrives? Who ensures it delivers real impact ❓How are we protecting migrants from exploitation? #Uganda
