The caudal fin of #teleost fishes has likely contributed to their evolutionary success by increasing maneuverability and thrust. Learn from @StankLab how caudal fin symmetry originates from a central organizer and sets of central and peripheral rays. doi.org/10.1002/dvdy.4…

@MadS100tist @kaufman_lab @chrmosimann We’ve continued putting a polyA signal in the 3’ position mostly out of habit and not totally knowing what is most effective in terms of recruiting polyadenylation machinery (e.g. if there are distance constraints). So all of our 3’ clones include the polyA. 2/2

#Zebrafish friends - Love Tol2 Kit. Having trouble lately with ? SV40 elements in some cloning (using Gibson, less Gateway these days). Suspect repetitive sequences to blame. Any good alts for 302/SV40 for 3' segment of typical prom:CDS:polyA (394/395 already have polyA)?

The latest @libudalab paper is online in @CurrentBiology! We develop and use an assay to temporally monitor repair of single DSB w/ the sister chromatid or same DNA molecule, and assess its conversion tracks during specific stages of meiosis in C. elegans. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Long-awaited structure of active Arp2/3 complex from UO/IMB colleague @BradNolen2 & collaborators. Key knowledge for “full scale” understanding of cytoskeletal dynamics in developmental and other contexts.

11/ It’s curious that Shh/Smo promotes skeletal patterning in fins and tetrapod limbs but by ostensibly distinct mechanisms. Could basal mechanistic similarities endure?

1/ Our new preprint describes how #zebrafish fins develop their characteristic branched bony ray skeletons by a unique Shh/Smo-dependent branching morphogenesis mechanism shared with regenerating fins. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
