@dccommonsense Public opinion is short term. Ridding yourself of existential threats and re-aligning the power structures of your neighbors is long term thinking. Even if the IRGC survives, they will be poor, isolated, perpetually vulnerable. Attacking neighbors by Iran sealed it.

@Blaze_R935 DC-XA in 1996 also landed the same way, but SpaceX does a great job, no question, with Falcon 9. Shuttle landed on a paved runway which to me is more impressive and revolutionary at the time and still is today for a space vehicle.

Based on many comments, it appears some believe the space program started in 2002, the year SpaceX was formed. They write as if reusable vehicles, landing probes on Mars, or a crew on the moon is a new thing. In their minds, everything SpaceX does is revolutionary.

I'm fascinated by the emerging consensus that having your navy and air force destroyed, your leadership killed off, and having lost complete control of your air space is actually evidence that one is winning. Crazy that we are only now discovering this new military strategy.

His death is not just a political event; it is a blow to that rare fusion of philosophical rigor and principled action. The United States, through its Rewards for Justice program, placed a bounty of up to $10 million on Larijani’s head (along with other senior Iranian officials, including Mojtaba Khamenei) just days before his reported killing in an Israeli strike. This act reduces a human being, regardless of political role, to a price tag, a means to an end in geopolitical maneuvering. If this practice were to become a universal principle, no head of state would ever be safe again. Imagine Donald Trump, or any leader, subject to the same logic: bounties issued by adversaries, turning political opposition into licensed assassination markets. The world would descend into a state where dignity evaporates, reason is subordinated to power, and perpetual insecurity reigns, precisely the antithesis of Kant’s vision of a kingdom of ends, where rational beings coexist under laws they give themselves. Today’s EU stands, in many ways, on Kant’s anti-nationalist philosophy. Kant viewed nationalism as outdated, a relic of particularism that must yield to cosmopolitan right and perpetual peace through federations of free states. There are no pure labor, ditch digger jobs anymore. You dig ditches and potholes with a Hydro vac truck or a small excavator. The idea that construction or field service people don’t have highly refined technical knowledge and experience Is just freaking insane. It’s equally insane to assume that you’re gonna teach somebody how to do this and to diagnose every problem in just a few short months. Takes a decade if you can find a 22-year-old kid who’s willing to do it and likes it. It’s like people think this is like 1920 or something. It’s so bananas.

The bigger question here - and the real problem - is why does it take 5 years to become an electrician? You're seriously gonna tell me the smartest white collar workers (soon to be unemployed) are effectively prohibited from getting employed as a lucrative tradesperson during the final period where human employment even matters, because of regulations? It's insane. A smart person could turbo charge this in 6 months. The West needs fast-track trades programs.
