For those who think that an MP has the right to cross the floor, there is another side to consider. Most Canadians cannot afford to pay $1750 to attend a fundraiser for an event like Carney held last night in Vancouver. However, many Canadians will get involved at their riding to support a candidate that has been nominated for their party. Perhaps they help arrange a meet and greet the candidate party, or try to recruit new members or sit on the riding executive. They do this freely for no renumeration. When the election is on, they put signs up, or run email banks or telephone banks or knock on doors with the candidate and hand out literature. They may not be able to make donations but they give their time freely to the cause. Matt Jeneroux was the Conservative MP for 10 years and had no problem accepting the help of these people because they wanted a Conservative to represent them. For him to cross the floor by saying he liked Carney's Davos speech is nothing but a lie. The people in his riding have a right to be angry. He betrayed them. He works for every person in the riding, not for himself. If he had any integrity, he would leave the Liberal caucus and sit as an independent or even better, resign his seat. Let the people in his riding decide if he should sit as a Liberal. Carney has conned Canadians and Jeneroux conned his electorate.
