@day_patch Yes, I played through half of Katana...thanks for the reminder.
I don't care for hit-stops...but I know they are in the biggest modern MetroidVanias.

Anyone have examples of 'dramatic' slow-mo working well in 2D-Action games? I love the idea of it, but it's been tricky to make it not annoying in the heat of battle.

@Liquish40 Thanks for sticking with us long enough to catch that. I don't even think we improved it : O
We've got lots more newer clips over at starsoft.com
I invite you to poke around.
English

@StarsoftPDX Looks like an improved version of the same animation from 4 or 5 years ago
English

@StarsoftPDX Yeah I tried that too but it got received as „the game lags in certain battle moments“ 😅 So I removed it for now, I would have probably add a depth filter and blur the rest or so a zoom or something to sell it.
English

@SongbirdPro @johnnycookiedoe Thanks for the feedback. My thinking was that the slow-down would trigger when you'd hit the dodge perfectly, then you'd get a reward for that (other than not getting skewered by an arrow).
English

I agree. In this clip, there's no reason for the slowdown since the character is just leaping back to a position of safety.
Now, if the intent is the player can utilize that slowdown to do a counter-move while leaping back, then the slowdown should remain as a hint that something special can happen here.
English

@johnnycookiedoe Thanks for the feedback Teemu. I want to experiment with tying a reward to the slow-down, and/or making it part of a powerful, rarely used move.
English

@StarsoftPDX The effect works if it is not just an effect but a gameplay mechanic or well developed function within the game.
What is dramatic the first time becomes tiring in repetition.
Substance is the key. The function of the slow down.
Katana Zero's slowdown is a difficulty toggle.
English

@StarsoftPDX Waiting eagerly for almost 7 years now. I'm still hoping for the best.
English

@StarsoftPDX I love that. If the player would start rotation in the slow motion it would look even better!
English

We’re back — with a new site!
Same address: starsoft.com
For the first time, Savior will be fully on display: progress, plans, and unfinished edges included (still filling it in!).
We hope transparency beats hype.
I invite you to come poke around 👀.

Ray, you made my day.
I won't discontinue the game, as long as I'm physically and mentally capable of continuing.
We're deep in a crucial tech overhaul. The core reason the game has taken so long is our tech/complexity debt had spiraled out of control.
Because I didn't know how code.
I've spent the last year learning C# and our code base. I've also been re-writing our systems so they're simpler and more performant.
Big things are coming.
This isn't going to be the game we Kickstarted... it's shaping up to be much more special.
English

@StarsoftPDX ladies and gentlemen please don't discontinue this game, I really really really really really really really really really really
really really really really really really really really really really really wanna see it release please I would love to play it <3
English

@PatchworkTweed Thanks for noticing the weight. It's something we strive to convey...a sense of realism.
English

@StarsoftPDX Amazing sense of weight in the robo-turkey. That takes some series animation chops to convey.
Complete opposite of the lightness and agility of the gal facing off against it.
English

We've got ill-tempered Robo-Turkeys with FRICKIN' Laser Beams attached to their arms!

@profoundbad Thanks...yeah. That trailer took us a while to put together. But the majority of those shots don't represent the current state of the art in the game.
I was thinking of starting with adding SFX/Music to our GIFs and re-releasing them on YouTube/Facebook shorts.
English

@StarsoftPDX I would say definitely cut more trailers if you can. It's been five years since the last one and I've watched that one on stream three times since. There's been a rise in YouTube channels that are good at covering new indie trailers, and it 100% deserves more peepers on it
English

@profoundbad Thank you so much. We need all the help we can get... getting the word out is one of our biggest blind spots : (
English

@StarsoftPDX I wish you all the best. I'll 100% be playing and hopefully spreading the good word.
English

@MagoryNET So glad you like it! Our animator used a bunch of sorcery to make that happen. I think an ancient 3D modeling program with fabric simulators may have been invoked.
English

@StarsoftPDX Love how the material moves on the banner. Amazing animations.

Crush your enemies and hear the lamentation of the clerics...

@profoundbad Ridiculous is the operating word there. Feature creep is real...hopefully you guys will reap the rewards.
English

@StarsoftPDX This game seems ridiculously feature rich. I can't wait to get hands on with it.
