The history of immigration law in the United States: It started with the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 which tried to stop all Asian immigration prompted by the Gold Rush and obtaining the West Coast of the continent. Then came the 1891 Immigration Act. It was targeted against felons, people with contagious diseases, and polygamists. The Immigration Act of 1903 added anarchists, epilepsy, beggars, and sex traffickers to the list of exclusions. 1917's act added a literacy test. 1924's act was the biggest since 1891. It established the border patrol and set a 150,000 annual quota. The 1943 act finally repealed the Chinese Exclusion Act. 1952's act prioritized skilled worker immigration. 1965 was the last big one which created visas.
