Bob Motzko not going after Canadian juniors which was a new world for this college hockey season made little sense & it burned him. Need someone young & not necessarily connected to the program which means getting away from the 90% of the roster must be Minnesotans mentality.

Statement from Motzko: "This was my 42nd year in coaching, and at this stage in my career, now is the right time for new leadership. I have dedicated 14 years to this program as a head coach, assistant coach and student. I am grateful for every minute of it. In addition to working with so many incredible student-athletes, it was great to see the arena full again and the passion restored to our program. One of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my eight years was reconnecting with and uniting our alumni and having them involved with our program. It was a tremendous honor to be part of this incredible University."

Bob Motzko was the first coach I ever covered when I started in media during the 2021-22 #gophers hockey season. I couldn’t have asked for a better one. Always honest, thoughtful, and great to cover. A class act and a big part of why those early experiences meant so much to me.

When it comes to Minnesota, it’s one of the most premiere jobs in college hockey. I think literally anyone could be a candidate there. I’ll try to get some thoughts out on what they could do, but I think anyone that they would potentially target would be interested.
