The government has continued to escalate its crackdown on PDM-related extortion following complaints raised by wananchi, including Joy Masika in Kasese and Tereza Nakasoma in Entebbe. This has resulted in arrests, court proceedings, and convictions recorded in Kasese, Kiryandongo, and Entebbe. Teopista Biira, Christine Biira, Paul Wameyo, and John Mugisha have been charged and arraigned in Kasese; Esther Akello, Margaret Abalo, Patrick Bugumirwa, Joel Aluku, Eunice Amusolo, and Jacob Mukwana have been convicted in Kiryandongo; while Joseph Kalega and Henry Kibowa face 15 counts and ongoing proceedings in Entebbe. Investigations led by SSP Byaruhanga Mworozi continue, reaffirming that access to @PDMSecretariat support is free of charge, and the government remains committed to ensuring all offenders are brought to justice.

President @KagutaMuseveni has returned from Kibos, Kenya, where he joined President @WilliamsRuto for the launch of the Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) section. The 107km project marks a key step in strengthening regional connectivity and advancing trade along the Northern Corridor.

I have arrived in Kisumu, Kenya, at the invitation of H.E. William Ruto, to join him in launching the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway. This is a strategic project that will reduce the cost of transport, ease the movement of goods, and deepen economic integration within East Africa. I look forward to this engagement.

This morning, President @KagutaMuseveni departed for Kenya, to join H.E. President @WilliamsRuto for the launch of the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba SGR extension. The project will boost regional connectivity and significantly enhance trade and transport efficiency across East Africa, with Uganda linking in from Malaba to Kampala through its SGR connection.

In accordance with a Presidential directive aimed at exposing and holding accountable individuals engaged in extorting money from citizens under the pretence of facilitating access to the @PDMSecretariat funds, the Government has intensified its efforts to preserve the integrity of the program by taking decisive action against fraudulent schemes targeting wananchi. In Kiryandongo District, authorities have apprehended and arraigned Nangoti Peter, Chairperson of Panyadoli PDM SACCO, on charges of allegedly obtaining UGX 2,878,400 from 15 individuals through false pretenses after misleading them into believing that payment was required to access PDM funds. It is important to note that no payment is necessary to benefit from the program. Mr. Nangoti was arrested on March 6, 2026, produced before the court on March 13, 2026, and subsequently remanded to prison as investigations and prosecution proceedings continue. The Government reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding wananchi and ensuring that PDM resources reach the intended beneficiaries.

This afternoon, President @KagutaMuseveni hosted retired United States Army Lieutenant General @GenFlynn at State House, Entebbe, where they discussed matters of mutual interest. The President was joined by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. @mkainerugaba, and Uganda’s Ambassador to the United States, Amb. @RobieKakonge_.
