@jacasiegel This is 100% relatable. People have mentioned how odd or uncomfortable it is when I mention my mom, but for me it is a way to remember her and share just how wonderful she was! It never gets easier and the waves of grief are always unexpected.

I don't talk about my mother's death much because it makes people uncomfortable to hear about grief, particularly young people's parent loss. It is a topic people avoid, and I get it. I would avoid it, too, if I had the choice. But I don't. And I want to talk about something. 1/5

Some days in the field are particularly good, especially when you find the organism you study IN the habitat you study! Today was that day!

Lucky enough to spend this past Saturday aboard the R/V Shearwater @DukeMarineLab with some awesome NSF REU students. We got to assist in releasing some beautiful juvenile loggerhead sea turtles 🐢🌊 Release of turtles authorized by NCWRC permit 21ST46 to the NC Aquariums.

Representation is important!
