@_MissONeill_ Oh they are some great thoughts! I feel like usually the school will make some posts online or check-in with families more than a teacher? We could always send home ‘home-work packs’ that have well-being points in there as well

In light of the current school holidays, how could we ensure our students are maintaining good mental health and wellbeing? Not all students have safe and caring home lives, does that mean our teaching flows into the holidays and is it appropriate to reach out? #UoNTeach

@Miss_Gascoigne I have never heard of them! Those recycling bins are a great resource and I will have a look into them further for my future classroom! It is imperative that we start teaching recycling and environmental care from an early age! I have never used a specific recycling resource!

Have you heard of Modern Teaching Aids before? They provide teachers with a massive variety of teaching resources and education supplies. Here are just some #recycling resources they have! Do you have a favourite #recycling resource? ♻️ #Educ4750 #UoNTeach

@Steph_Murray12 They could start and end the day with a hand signal to reflect how they are feeling or even move a character along a scale of emotions throughout the day so the teacher could see who needs more support.

Getting students to recognise their emotions, understand why they are feeling that way and practice dealing with them in a healthy way is used in my SDG3 project. These skills are essential life skills that students will benefit from throughout life. #SDG3 #UoNTeach #Educ4750
Rebecca Misseldine@RebeccaMisseld1

Let's not forget about mental health when discussing good health and wellbeing. How can we as teachers build self-regulative students who problem-solve their own emotions? Check out the link below #UoNTeach #educ4750 #SDG3 theskillcollective.com/blog/building-…

@Miss_Gascoigne Oh I did not know this at all - what a shame. People think that they are doing the right thing but apparently not! I have learnt many new statistics and facts about plastic use & #sdg14 - I must write them down! Everyone in #educ4750 are bringing such different perspectives!

You learn something new everyday! I did not know that cardboard coffee cups contained a thin layer of #plastic. #Reusable coffee cups are the way to go!☕️ What is something you have learnt since joining Twitter for #educ4750? #UoNTeach
Plastic Police@bags2benches

Did you know that takeaway coffee cups contain a thin layer of plastic? This plastic layer stops the coffee from soaking through the cardboard, however, it also means that the cup can't be recycled in... facebook.com/plasticpolicep…

@Miss_Gascoigne What a frightening statistic - that is shocking! I guess signage and advertisements is a great start to encourage reusable bag use. We could even implement programs in school as a part of textiles or creative arts where students make reusable bags and donate or give them away!

@Miss_Gascoigne It is important that we include cultural perspectives in our teaching! It is also crucial that we talk about culture in terms of generations/age as well as religion and location. We need to remember that our world is here forever and we need to maintain it for future generations!

@IsaacHaines1 @Miss_Gascoigne That's a great idea to visualise it! We could even use the stickers in the classroom as we would a regular sticker - to join things together.

@Miss_Gascoigne This is a great point, I can't say that I have once used the sticker on fruit. Perhaps all students in a class could stick all their stickers together and create a tower from them, just to visually see how many stickers go to waste. This could be done over a week, month or year!

@SophieMcMurray2 Great idea to use yarning circles as a mindfulness activity! You could also use the circles as a consolidation for a lesson as students share, reflect and connect their ideas to one another.

Such a great idea! I will be incorporating yarning circles in my project as part of a mindfulness activity for children to speak in a safe space about their feelings. Fantastic that it incorporates Aboriginal histories and cultures through this activity. #SDG3 #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach
Rebecca Misseldine@RebeccaMisseld1

I love this! Yes! Yarning circles are great for initiating discussion, it also contributes to a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where students feel they can communicate with confidence. A great way to highlight Aboriginal education in schools. #UoNTeach #educ4750 #SDG3

@SophieMcMurray2 I find that students are so much more involved (and therefore learning more) when they use #PBL! There are so many schools nowadays that employ this pedagogy as a main focus. PBL can easily include #communityengagement if we ask others to supply ideas, materials, info etc!

PBL will also be used in my sdg3 project focused on mindfulness. It allows for a authentic learning experience where students can utilise so many of their skills to create solutions to problems. #Educ4750 #UoNTeach #SDG3

@KobeHar48482214 @CordaJesse @Melissa_321M @kurt_eckmann @ReardonBrittany @jj47985290 Great resource! I will be using Dewy's theory of Project-Based Learning in my unit. PBL is a flexible, pedagogic framework that promotes deeper learning and greater engagement. This will develop 21st Century Skills, give students a voice and inquire innovation! #sdg3

@SophieMcMurray2 De Bono's 6 Thinking Hats is such a great pedagogy to embed within any lesson! We need to remember that each student learns differently and brings different skills to a group! De Bono's is also great when wanting to focus on something specific in a lesson, just pick a new hat!

@SophieMcMurray2 Wow what a great find! #mindfulness in the classroom is such a great idea for students to rewind and reset - it could be a great idea to use as 'brain breaks'! Teachers can also use mindfulness opportunities as a chance for lesson transitions and setting-up!

@JuliaBe64274003 Maybe we could say ocean acidification is greatest threat for marine habitats and plastic pollution for the animals themselves? The whole marine environment is so linked - everything certainly impacts one another!

@Steph_Murray12 This is so upsetting! I would argue that the warming of the oceans & ocean acidification is posing a potentially greater threat to marine ecosystems. In turn, this affects life on land because the oceans are unable to sequester as much carbon... It's a vicious cycle!

@Miss_KWoods @PlayCraftLearn Anything that limits waste, is good for our bodies and involves the community is a fantastic idea! A working bee would create great community partnerships - great thought Katelyn!

@Steph_Murray12 @PlayCraftLearn I agree! Allowing the community to vote and contribute to the school garden will allow them to become active members within the school. They could even assist in fundraising a working bee! What do you think about that?

Minecraft is a great resource to use when planning and creating a school vegetable garden. It promotes problem solving skills, incorporates ICT and allows students to be creative within their design. How else could you use Minecraft for your SDG? #SDG12 #UoNteach #Educ4750

@christie_tahlia That is very true, I agree! Most fruits can be easily washed (or usually they are peeled) - showing just how much excess plastics are used. We can go #plasticfree in the fruit and veg section if we just put the foods straight in the shopping trolley or into our own reusable bag!

@Steph_Murray12 The plastic bags in the fruit and vegetable section is a major issue also. If they just removed them like plastic shopping bags it would reduce plastic waste in the supermarket.

What a great change this would be! If we eliminate plastics in things we encounter everyday there is more exposure of the potential issues! What other everyday objects or items could we erase plastic from? #educ4750 #uonteach
