The original population of the Americas before Europeans invaded and committed genocide, was around 90 million. By 1900, the native population had been reduced to 300,000. That's what a fucking holocaust looks like. But they weren't "chosen people", so nobody gives a shit.

Kagan's Atlantic piece, which is broadly correct in its conclusions, is catching some off guard. The Zionist, ur-interventionist turbohawk who helped architect the wars in Iraq and Ukraine frankly describing the US as a "paper tiger" and effectively declaring Iranian victory is difficult to parse. I don't find it surprising and think it can be explained by the following: • Kagan (like John Bolton) takes issue not with the war per se but with its execution. The admin has simultaneously overcommitted by starting the war in the first place and undercommitted by restraining itself to long-range strikes with no ground invasion. The operation has been plagued with poor planning and casualty avoidance. This was their one shot to eliminate Iran for Israel, and it's been wasted. • Considering the resilience of the Iranian state, it's best to disassociate himself and his cohort from the war as soon as possible. The war is a failure, and there's no reason to publicly support it and be subjected to the blame game that's already playing out. • Similar to the second point, it's essential for Kagan and his ilk to pin this failure on Trump. The relatively short piece mentions Trump by name 15 times and features his shadowy visage in the header image. Figures like Kagan and Bolton have been fighting tooth and nail for this war for decades, and it's best for them if the blame is solely pinned on Trump. This works out well for Kagan regardless because he's switched political parties multiple times and has chosen the Democrats as his preferred vehicle for his agenda since 2016.

The Prime Minister says his government has got "the big political decisions right". Let's go through them. The government chose to cut welfare so it could spend even more on weapons and war. The government chose to demonise the sick and disabled. The government chose to keep children in poverty until it was dragged kicking and screaming to finally scrap the two-child benefit cap. The government chose not to bring water into public ownership, not to tax wealth and not to implement rent controls. The government chose to arm Israel and participate in genocide. The government chose to let the US use British air bases for its war crimes in Iran. The government chose to let Palantir get its hands on our NHS. The government chose to scapegoat migrants and refugees for its own failures. Poverty, inequality and genocide. Those are the government's big decisions. And that is how this government will be remembered.
