@DFrankcom Sadly, the minimum wage is $2.13 per hour for servers. Tips make up the difference. They don't usually work more than 6 hrs per day. $12.78 a day doesn't go too far in the US

The tipping culture in America never fails to baffle me I won’t lie. A pint is around $9 (just under £7) which includes an 18.75% service charge (so around $7.50 for the actual pint itself, which isn’t too dissimilar to UK prices) and I’m fine with that. But then they give you a pen with the receipt to write an extra tip on and it’s so bloody awkward. So many questions going through my mind every time. What do you want me to do here? What was the 18.75% for? Are you not getting paid by the hour? How much are you getting of that service charge? How much more are you expecting? Do I look a tight bastard if I just do $1 more? I’d say I’m a very generous bloke too with my time and my money but it’s just mind-blowing stuff how this is a normality. Can’t beat just buying 3 pints in the UK (well Europe, let’s be honest) in a pub for around 18quid… and just giving a 20sheet to the barman and letting them keep the change 🍻

I'm on a flight sitting in the middle seat, which already sucks. The guy in the window seat falls asleep before we even take off. The lady in the aisle seat immediately pulls out her laptop and starts working. About an hour into the flight, the window seat guy wakes up. Window Guy: "Excuse me, I need to use the bathroom." Me: "Oh, yeah no problem." I stand up and step into the aisle. The aisle lady doesn't move. Me: "Sorry, he needs to get out." Aisle Lady: *doesn't even look up* "He can climb over." Me: "What?" Aisle Lady: "I'm working. He can climb over the seats." Window Guy: "I... I'm not climbing over the seats." Aisle Lady: "Then wait until I'm done." Me: "How long is that gonna be?" Aisle Lady: "I don't know, I'm busy." The flight attendant notices the situation and comes over. Flight Attendant: "Is everything okay here?" Me: "He needs to use the bathroom but she won't move." Flight Attendant: "Ma'am, you need to let him out." Aisle Lady: "I'm in the middle of something important." Flight Attendant: "I understand, but you still need to move." The lady lets out this huge dramatic sigh, saves her work, closes her laptop, and stands up like we just asked her to donate a kidney. The window guy goes to the bathroom. When he comes back: Window Guy: "Thank you." Aisle Lady: *silent* She didn't say a word to either of us for the rest of the flight. When we landed, she was the first one to jump up and grab her bag. She hit me in the head with it and didn't apologize.
