Thank you @ArchbishopSarah for your speech and for indicating that you support the amendments of Monckton, Stroud and +Leicester; to remove clause 208 (ie maintain the current law on abortion), remove the pills-by-post scheme, and protect young women/girls in pregnancy crisis 👍🏻

It’s perfectly normal. We invented modern law making and we’ve had bishops in the Lords for a very very long time. Also just imagine being someone who would support the idea of murdering babies.
Stephen Evans@Stephenmevans1

Peers last night backed removing women from criminal abortion law, so they would no longer face charges or prison for ending a pregnancy. Anglican clerics turned out in force to oppose this (eleven). This level of religious intervention in modern lawmaking is not normal.

It is a great strength of our legislature that it has people whose job is to be the voice of the voiceless and speak for the powerless. Proud of the bishops who did that last night.

@2D0XPS You should’ve asked. I could’ve told you that for free. Pestle and mortar is the only way I’ve found that works

@davidjn_ @2D0XPS @liambeadle @jtheleast @SamuelSThorp By contrast this is something that York Minster does very well. Or at least did when I lived in York. The announcement before hand to follow the “cream coloured card” and being told what pages to find things on was excellent. Then basically no announcements in the service itself

@2D0XPS @liambeadle @jtheleast @SamuelSThorp Evensong at WA concluded the PBS 50th anniversary celebrations in October 2023 - we were not offered any books or service sheets. I was fortunate in that I had a BCP in my pocket and knew the words of the hymn off by heart - others will not have been so fortunate…

@FatherNaylor @DuncanHegan1 I am still in shock when I went to the pub in Horbury with the curate and orders 2 pints and as asked for £4.50. I responded with “Sorry, I meant 2 pints” the barman looked at me like I was mad “that is 2 pints”

I have been charged 4 (four) pounds for a pint in Zone 1. It’s all going to be fine.

The new Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally is due to MISS this week's vote on ABORTION UP TO BIRTH. I do not think this was an intentional clash - but it is imperative that she and the other bishops travel temporarily to Parliament for the vote. Jesus valued spiritual disciplines and religious rites - but never at the cost of human life. "I desire mercy, not sacrifice." Hosea 6:6; Matthew 9:13

@Dr_W_E_Bulmer This is like the body to water ratio that no one wants to think about. You wouldn’t get into a swimming pool with a body in it. You would go in the sea knowing there are bodies in it. There is therefore and acceptable body to water ratio

Random question: How old do human remains have to be, before their discovery ceases to be treated as a police investigation and becomes solely a matter of archeological interest?

“No one deserves a seat in the legislature because of their birth” is quite revealing language. We see power (and many other things) as a reward handed out to those who deserve to wield it, which is very unusual. Most societies (including ours) saw it as (partly) a duty imposed.

@2D0XPS We know this even through living out Christian lives. Sinning is almost always the more comfortable of the options we have. Doing the right thing is often hard, painful, the narrow path, the smaller door

@2D0XPS True contrition is painful even if only emotional. Beating addiction can hurt. Medical procedures to heal are often very painful. Saying goodbye to loved ones hurts. Preparation for heaven is removing all disordered affections. That will at very least be uncomfotable

The traditional teaching on Purgatory is that it's a section of Hell, not Heaven. We know that purification cannot happen in heaven because ‘nothing unclean will ever enter it’ (Rev 21:27)
Daniel Heaton tweet media
Fr. Dwight Longenecker@dlongenecker1

@JoshuaBarzon If you think of purgatory as a section of heaven where we are purified by God's grace to enter into his presence it will not trouble you so much.
