It’s perfectly normal. We invented modern law making and we’ve had bishops in the Lords for a very very long time.

Peers last night backed removing women from criminal abortion law, so they would no longer face charges or prison for ending a pregnancy. Anglican clerics turned out in force to oppose this (eleven). This level of religious intervention in modern lawmaking is not normal.

👑A RIGHT ROYAL MESS: Major intervention on abortion up to birth & assisted suicide from King Charles. The King is reported to be having a “dark night of the soul” about both pieces of legislation. Neither should receive royal assent - they would put the most vulnerable at risk.

The announcement before hand to follow the “cream coloured card” and being told what pages to find things on was excellent. Then basically no announcements in the service itself

I was fortunate in that I had a BCP in my pocket and knew the words of the hymn off by heart - others will not have been so fortunate…

I have never seen the point of visiting a church outside of a service. Like visiting an empty football ground. Which people also seem to do.

£31 for “a moment to reflect” seems rather pricey. Growing up in Westminster, on rainy days I used to play in these cloisters for free, make brass rubbings of the wonderful inscriptions (the shop sold the wax crayons to do so, it was encouraged not illicit) and absorb the historic and peaceful atmosphere. Now a child’s ticket costs £14 and brass rubbings are banned. The Church of England seems to be happier being a money making museum than a cornerstone of our cultural and religious heritage. And with prices that high, no wonder they have to advertise for people to go.

The new Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally is due to MISS this week's vote on ABORTION UP TO BIRTH.
I do not think this was an intentional clash - but it is imperative that she and the other bishops travel temporarily to Parliament for the vote.

“No one deserves a seat in the legislature because of their birth” is quite revealing language. We see power (and many other things) as a reward handed out to those who deserve to wield it, which is very unusual. Most societies (including ours) saw it as (partly) a duty imposed.

@2D0XPS True contrition is painful even if only emotional. Beating addiction can hurt. Medical procedures to heal are often very painful. Saying goodbye to loved ones hurts.
Preparation for heaven is removing all disordered affections. That will at very least be uncomfotable

The traditional teaching on Purgatory is that it's a section of Hell, not Heaven.
We know that purification cannot happen in heaven because ‘nothing unclean will ever enter it’ (Rev 21:27)
