🤯 Nah the set-pieces this season are becoming a joke. They get better and better. Palermo score 10 seconds into a Serie B match with a PERFECT set-piece from kick-off.

Ruben Amorim. Manchester United. A rant. 🔻 Build-up: United either close and kick, invert a centre back into midfield and play direct (which gives them an extra number for 2nd balls), or they try to pass to one side with the centre back inverted into midfield but they get trapped and can't build when they do that. So that's the build-up. Unless the opposition don't press, United are incapable of building out from the back. High build: We all know what it is. We just had to witness against Everton and West Ham. Wingbacks in positions that Yamal and Luis Díaz play in. 3 centre backs, even if the opposition have 10 men. Unbelievably predictable and easy to prepare for. Defending: Man-to-man from the opposition goal kick. United get good pressure on the ball here. Open play? 5-2-3, can sometimes apply step-up-pressure if the rotations fall into place with the centre backs stepping into midfield, but they are often pinned, cannot jump, and United are easily overloaded and made to defend with 5 in the last line. Plus, because United defend with a back 5, they have less players naturally high up the pitch to press and less players to help them get out in transition. THAT IS THE SYSTEM. EVERY WEEK. IRRESPECTIVE OF THE OPPOSITION. At a winning game-state, United drop back and defend low even though Amorim's intention is not to do this but the system essentially forces them to do it because they play with so many defenders. When the opposition equalise or go ahead and United are forced to open up, they can't compete in end-to-end games because they lack players high to press, players high for transitions, and when they do try and press the midfield 2 are massively overloaded because the centre backs often can't jump for a whole host of physical, mental, and tactical reasons. The ONLY time Manchester United do well in ANY game is because they have so many special players. Yet the masses are blinded by the fact because we rarely see their qualities platformed well. A proper manager waltzes into the Champions League with £200m to spend on top of what was already an excellent group of players and no European football (which is the case because of Amorim finishing 15th last season). Amorim's best quality is his likability. But his system is lightyears away from where it needs to be. United play flip of a coin football and often come out on top because they have special players. But those are not the standards for Manchester United. The standards are to win the title or bust. Yet they have been eroded beyond our wildest imagination ever since he stepped into the football club over a year ago. His constant failures have somehow been given this much time. I can't wrap my head around it. Even if he stumbles his way into the Champions League thanks to the embarrassment of riches he has it his disposal with regards to sheer quality, United's ceiling will always be incredibly limited with Ruben Amorim in charge UNLESS he changes his system. The same system he continues to say that he will never change. It's awful no matter when lens you view it through. The whole damn thing.

I don't care if it's on an interim basis or permanent, I just want to see the values of the great club that I love upheld again by people who understand it. Bringing smiles to faces & putting them on the edge of their seat for 90 minutes. Playing football the right way whilst knowing that we are the main protagonists whenever we take to the field. Creating an environment of development for both young AND proven players by protecting them in the public eye & putting them in line behind closed doors so that, when you take a bullet for them in interviews, they'll run through a wall for you on the pitch. Stressing the importance of legacy & tradition like the custodians that you are by proving that nobody — including yourself — is bigger than the club with your actions & not just words. Creating a connection with the fans with transparent communication & not empty promises. Being honest with yourself in order to fix flaws & right wrongs instead of putting the blame onto others when things don't go to plan. THAT is what being Manchester United manager is all about.

Truly PATHETIC quote, admitting he knows the wing backs aren’t good enough / are literally all full backs playing wing back aside from Amad yet he’ll persist anyway. Said it before; this bloke has no interest in results at United. This is a job interview for wherever he ends up next. Glasner said he plays wing backs because it suits the characteristics of his players. This bloke KNOWS it doesn’t suit us & persists anyways because he’s not intelligent or brave enough to adapt.

Amorim on #mufc’s wing-backs: “I think they are far from the best, and they know it. So, like a lot of players in our team, like myself. So I just, I just look at them, and I think they have so much more to give. So let's see, let's see this week if we improve that.”

In games where we have possession & have to build-up, I struggle to see any benefit of +1 CB instead of +1 mid Just limits outlet for central progression & naturally promotes circulation of ball backwards. Hard to ignore systematic/player coaching issue
@ConfusedUnited

523 OOP vs 10-man = self-sabotage — basically giving away +1 advantage — allow all space for them to dominate Rewatch goal sequence and tell me extra midfielder wouldn’t have help more than extra CB? (instead of Bruno being last line in front of defense)
