@BKSportsTalk Maybe we can't get some int pool money or a low level something back for Torres. Like those trades Mo used to make to trade a 40-man asset for a non-40-man asset

@BKSportsTalk Chaim might be calling around to see if anyone is interested. I would suspect some of the lag in moves being made (especially for those who are arguing for more urgency) is due to the team not wanting to give up decent assets for free in a rebuild cycle.

@jmjones I found it interesting that he's there and Pozo is DH. I thought Pozo had been doing more work at 1B than Fermin. Apparently not!

José Fermín has never appeared in a game at first base in his professional career prior to today’s scheduled start there. That’ll leave just the battery spots for him to cross off.

During the expansion era (1961-present) the #STLCards have had a hitter take 115 or more plate appearances in a season a total of 877 times. Of the 877, Victor Scott II ranks No. 867 with his current 38 OPS (which is 62% below league average offensively.)

@AdamAkbani This feels normal for Burley to improve against LHH as the season continues. I could be wrong, but I think the last two years were the same way.

3-2 today. Brycen Mautz has a solid stat in a Memphis loss. Davis and Rivas hit homers in a Springfield win. Gurevitch picks up his first two Peoria hits, and Palm Beach sweeps the doubleheader behind strong performances from Odle, Dattalo, Velasquez, and Birge.

@O_T_Lee @isaacthurman1 It doesn't change that you still have two other catchers on the roster in addition to Herrera. And that's the math that's being done here. Regardless of how often Herrera catches, we have two other catchers on the roster.

1) Oli won’t allow it 2) you’re not getting the Bailey return for him. You’re getting a pitcher not as good as Tugboat and that’s it Also… I don’t like Pagés starting but he’s important in the room and would be a very nice backup /40-45% of the snaps guy
STL Sports Central@STLSprtsCntrl

No one is claiming he’s a slugger, but Pedro Pages provides a lot of value in the trade market, Bernie says “When a catcher is in the 95th percentile for his overall defensive value, he’s a damn good catcher.” #STLCards

@O_T_Lee @isaacthurman1 Herrera catching less doesn't fix that. You still are ultimately carrying 3. As long as Herrera is the primary DH, you've got 3 catchers. However you slice it.

@isaacthurman1 I’d like Herrera catching infrequently to take care of the 3 C roster crutch I loathe it and always have

The Cardinals' rotation ranks 6th in MLB in ERA since 4/15 During this time: Michael McGreevy: 1.90 ERA Dustin May: 2.76 Kyle Leahy: 3.86 Matthew Liberatore: 3.86 Andre Pallante: 4.03 They may not be strikeout kings, but it's hard to argue against their success

The Cardinals have released OF Mike Antico as part of today's moves. A good clubhouse guy, and solid ballplayer i'm sure he will find a spot in another organization

@jmjones I'm actually kind of expecting him to go that direction. He just spend a little bit of time on the development list, too. He could easily follow the Oli Marmol path by signing as a coach after being released.

Two players who were in big league camp with the Cardinals in spring have been released — OF Mike Antico and C Carlos Línarez Antico in particular has a whole lot of fans of his skills as a teammate on the big league roster. Will be interesting to see if he pops up as a coach.

@MLBaseball_Live It's my understanding this has become a normal routine. They change grasses based on time of year and weather, as StL is notoriously difficult to get one grass to last the whole year.

The #stlcards are GrassMaxing and Ascending. The Cardinals are Mogging other teams in all ways in 2026. From their lineup to their grass. Well, hopefully their outfields look good and not like a patchy job with fresh sod. The OF looked fine to the average eye. I just hope it isn't noticeable. I'm assuming you can't get it done in the offseason due to the weather needing to be warmer, but it seems like an odd in-season thing if that's incorrect. I've seen sod look incredible and I've seen sod look like a green quilt full of different green patches, the latter will look terrible, like a post-concert at Busch but for the entire field, not just one spot. Fingers crossed it's decent. Also the new Bermuda will have an interesting effect on ground balls too

@RedbirdRiot Herrera is better defensively than most give him credit for because of the one major weakness - the arm.

The Cardinals need more complete players. Winn, Jj, Burly and Church(???) are the only guys that are pretty solid offensively/defensively/baserunning. No?

@RedbirdRiot Another contending team losing a catcher to injury makes Pages a better trade chip. Also, we don't know which players are most important to the intangibles we've seen from this team. I suspect one reason for minimal moves the fiest two months is to let the new culture solidify

I just don’t see what roster moves Bloom makes to call Jimmy Crooks up before like July, if at all. We’ve got 3 catchers up already. Herrera’s +offense and pages +defense and Pozo just the emergency catcher.

@Twessel30 @RedbirdRiot He's a solid framer and game-caller. Pages was best in MLB in ABS in spring training, so I'm actually surprised he's been this poor regular season. Herrera has been the best blocking catcher in StL for 3 seasons now.

@RedbirdRiot Pages "defense" is so overblown. He has 1 tool. Throwing runners out. He is a bad blocker, and bad with ABS.

It’s really unfortunate that the #STLCards finished this tough stretch with two losses, with the last being as deflating as it was, because this was actually a really impressive stretch. If you told me they would go 9-7 against a tough schedule and no off days (aside from a partial one with the rainout) I would’ve been very happy. Off day tomorrow and then an interesting series in Sacramento

Man, this one's going to make me sad. It's one you should've had - it was a series win in SD - west coast trip heading into a very fun series against the Athletics. Instead - your best guy who's just gassed blows the game and what should've been a very high end note of the weekend turns into a very low end. One of the most potent offenses in MLB has gone told when their SP really turned out a nice weekend for them. Yeah....this one is going to ruin my Monday radio listening. #stlcards
