On this #WorldMEDay2026, one truth stands out: ME is real, debilitating, and long overlooked. Patients deserve support not stigma. If you want to be an ally, then listen, center lived experience, and push for progress. If you're not, then get the hell out of the way.

A few years ago we collected some data showing the difference in funding across diseases. We argued that ME should target "Parity with Parkinson's". That seemed wildly ambitious, but with today's SequenceME news, @actionforme and @DecodeMEstudy have achieved it for 2026.

As great as this is, it's not lost on me that this is still less money than the PACE Trial received in government funding (including from the DWP) twenty years ago.

It’s the first place most people look - family/medics/journalists. If I was a charity I’d be banging that door til it opened.

@Juvenal0815 @PatientPersists Thanks. We have a big problem - No compassion / empathy. Disability hatred in UK seems on par with what’s seen of race & gender hatred in the US. We have such inequality here, populism points the finger at each minority and says “they are the reason you can’t afford your bills”.

@PatientPersists you need a small team (we were 4 people for my home town and the first demo). You reserve the space for a demonstration and invite family and friends - if you have a self help group splendid. Add the press - they might be curious what will happen …. and go! rinse and repeat
