@SophyRidgeSky I have watched Sky for several years as the best news program. Pairing you @SophyRidgeSky with Wilfred is a smart move, as the pair of you understand politics and uk issues. And also listen to the podcasts. Great work

Can anyone help me out …. What was this ? It sounded like a jet but shows up as a helicopter doing over 200 knots. It’s either Airwolf or something else… Help.

@SkyNews You’re weather headline says ‘barrelling towards Mexico after Jamaica’. Do you know the Cayman Islands, a UK territory, exists? They are next!!!

Hurricane Beryl has battered islands in the eastern Caribbean, killing at least seven people. It is now barrelling towards Jamaica. Track the hurricane's path below 🔽 twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

@scottiebateman Are most two pilots Captain plus’s first officer - therefore qualifying to become a Captain? Seems self defeating

There is a huge debate raging at the moment about the future crewing of the flightdeck. Two pilots…or just one ? I can understand the economics and to an extent the safety aspects of the argument. But are you, the paying customers, ever going to get on an airliner with a single pilot? Would love to hear your thoughts on this one. #aviation #avgeek #flying #WePilots

@JJSharpers All credit to Sky news running the full version and reporting on the support. And to the Commissioner backing the Sgt who went way beyond what most would do in the situation.

@scottiebateman Scott, agree with you but respectfully you are missing the point that United have a developing PR issue with multiple aircraft maintenance issues. Another one yesterday into Cayman diverted 400 miles with flap issue.

This just isn’t news. It’s a manifestation of a positive safety culture that means pilots don’t feel pressured to press on…when perhaps everything isn’t nominal. It’s couched here very much as a negative but as a professional pilot and passenger, I’d much rather have this. Wouldn’t you ?

A United Airlines flight bound for Japan returns to the gate at San Francisco International Airport due to a mechanical issue with the plane. The incident marks at least the 10th of its kind involving the U.S. airline in the past two weeks. trib.al/V7FtWh7

@SilversRef There was a very good comment in the Wigan match, players are going to have to start bending down to tackle, like you are taught early on. You can still hit hard without headshots. The crowds this weekend were the highest for an opening day, and that with crappy weather.

Question to come off this weekend. Would you rather have decent crowds watching teams go at it like a few years ago or crowds getting turned away watching an over sanitised sport? Spectators aren’t going to put up with this surely.

We have 6 fire engines, the drone team and the rope rescue team currently in attendance at a fire on Promenade, Blackpool. Please stay away from the area. The drone team are in operation so please do not fly drones in the area as you may obstruct emergency operations.

@JJSharpers You appear to be passing judgement on a short video clip without knowing what surrounds the issue. That is exactly the issue with 'police videos' - I am just surprised you of all people jumped to the the conclusion based on that alone.

@policecommander Are the two audience members from behind not police officers in plain clothes? More to this than a few seconds of phone footage. The fact the Ch Insp is there in seconds shows that.

@SamCosham @Brick_Cop @NPAShq The 135 is one of the quietest helicopters flying, that’s why they are one of three types that can fly into the Grand Canyon. The other two are the 130 and 145, all fenestron equipped - and Airbus

Ok so why do Police Helicopters wake you up in the middle of the night!? 🚁😱 We swear an Oath when we join as Police Constables to do three things: ☑️ Keep the King’s Peace. ☑️ Protect People and Property. ☑️ Preserve life. Like the military, we are Crown Servants, we can’t strike, amongst many other things, and are duty bound by that Oath. So what on Earth has that got to do with a helicopter hovering over your roof at 0300!? 😡 Well, protecting people and property covers most crimes, including burglary, assaults, sexual assaults and vehicle crime. If Officers on the ground are searching for; or chasing suspects involved in an offence, they can ask for @NPAShq - a helicopter from the National Police Air Service to assist them. 🚁 What does a helicopter offer? A helicopter has incredible camera equipment on board that can zoom in to an awesome degree of accuracy as well as heat sensitive equipment that can spot someone hiding! In extreme emergencies the crew will even land and help those in need or chase a suspect too! 😮 They can also safely maintain commentary on a suspect vehicle travelling at high speed until Police Officers trained in ending pursuits (TPAC) are on scene. 🚔 Back to that Oath though - preserve life. Probably the most important part of our oath. So if Officers are searching for a high risk missing person, possibly someone vulnerable or intent on harming themselves a helicopter is truly invaluable. I was once searching a cemetery when @NPAShq spotted the person high up in a tree in the middle of the night. Without them it could have been a very different ending. 😅 Finally, Public Order and keeping the King’s Peace. 👀 Sometimes we need an eye in the sky for a command team to see the situation on the ground. Public Order incidents can deteriorate rapidly and for the command team to get a grip on what they’ve got and what they need, that eye in the sky is invaluable. 👏🏻 BUT WHAT ABOUT DRONES!? 🤨 Drones are a phenomenal piece of kit. And in many circumstances they’re just as useful. They can’t however engage in any kind of pursuit because the pilot must maintain a visual line of sight with the drone at all times. Also their safety default is to land where they took off it they lose signal with the pilot which would be dangerous if the pilot had moved and the signal was lost. Also they have a battery life, which is much shorter than a helicopter’s fuel range. They *are* much quieter though and it’s not to say their advancement won’t stop a huge increase in their use and quite rightly too! 👌🏻 So that’s why you might be woken up in the wee hours. It’s to preserve life, keep the peace and protect people and property, always. #ThinBlueLine 🚨
