I moved from Kenya to Germany to work.
Here’s the financial reality Africans aren’t told 🇩🇪
1/
You earn more.
But you don’t feel rich.
Europe is expensive in quiet ways:
• insurance
• tax
• rent
• energy
• transport
Salary rises.
So do costs.
2/
In Kenya, money pressure is visible.
In Germany, it’s invisible.
Bills are automated.
Deductions silent.
You don’t see money leave.
But it leaves.
3/
Sending money home changes meaning abroad.
€100 in Germany = small
€100 in Kenya = big
You live in two value systems at once.
4/
Saving abroad is easier structurally.
But harder emotionally.
Because:
You compare
You support family
You feel responsible
5/
The biggest shift:
Abroad, wealth isn’t income.
It’s what remains after stability.
Most immigrants reach stability.
Few reach wealth.
6/
Still — moving abroad changed my financial life.
Not because Europe is rich.
But because systems are predictable.
And predictability builds wealth.
