Central PA hasn't been near the seat of the heat lately, but it got impressively warm for March ahead of the storms yesterday. 82º in State College was a daily record, and the first time in the 80s in March since 1998. Ties for the 5th highest March temp on record, too #pawx

@JamieOber8590 Ha, I wondered this as well, and was surprised to find it was last winter, though Dec 2024 and Feb 2025 negative anomalies were really small. Before that, I think it's 2013-2014. Winter of 2014-2015 was just as cold, but December was above normal, Jan/Feb WAY below normal

The most remarkable thing weatherwise about this winter in State College wasn't the cold (ranked 40th coldest). It was dry weather. We had just 4.52" of liquid-equivalent precipitation December-February, which ranks as the 8th driest meteorological winter on record. #pawx

How cold was this winter in Central PA? It was so cold that State College had its...<checks notes>...40th coldest winter on record. There was an impressive ~3 weeks of cold from mid-Jan to early Feb, but seasonal temps overall were closer to middle of the pack than extreme #pawx

Yesterday also might have been the last chance this winter for a single-digit high in State College. The next week to 10 days looks much more seasonable, and by late February, climatology makes it tough to do. #pawx

As impressive as the recent cold stretch has been, State College still hasn't managed a day with a single-digit high. Yesterday was one of the better chances, but we made it to 13ºF. We haven't had a day with a high in the single digits since 2018. #pawx
