@PBFeldy Feldy, if you want to take it a step further back, Johnny Pohl’s dad, Jim, was the Rochester Lourdes hockey coach back in the Seventies.

Last year, the Dodge County girls were the first southern Minnesota team to win a high school hockey state title since the Red Wing boys in 1997. The coach for this ⬇️ Hill Murray girls team? John Pohl, who played on that ‘97 Red Wing team.

When I was hired by @StribSports to cover high school sports in 2000, two of the best athletes in town were Joe Mauer and Larry Fitzgerald Jr. Both are retired. Mauer is in baseball Hall of Fame and Fitzgerald just got selected for football Hall of Fame. And I’m officially old.

With a week to reflect, I’m convinced this was the greatest moment in sports history. A 2-star recruit leads the worst program ever to a national championship, beats his hometown team that wouldn’t let him walk on, and finishes it by running over the same guy who knocked him out the year before, with his mother battling MS watching from the stands. If it was a Disney movie, you’d say it was too much.

@pbpruff Congratulations to the whole staff. The job ain’t quite as easy as some people think.

Jason Feldman predictably and modestly left himself out of our sports reporter crew. He is a massive piece of it. Nobody on our staff is better than that guy when it comes to being a sports reporter — or pretty much anything else you can think of. We love the dude.
