Blackleg in South West Vic is now severe on leaves and first flowers. If your crop has severe leaf lesions and is commencing flowering it may be at risk of Upper Canopy Blackleg yield loss. Later flowering crops will have much lower risk.

Blackleg in the Wimmera is developing on leaves, but it is too late to cause severe crown canker. The risk of Upper Canopy at the moment is lower in the Wimmera due to later flowering.

First blackleg flower infection that I've seen this season. If your crop is flowering early and has infection, consider fungicide at 30% bloom.

Green bridge full of #aphids and #viruses (Turnip yellows virus) in Victoria, important to avoid sowing canola and pulse crops if green bride is not under control

An example of severe blackleg infection on untreated MS cultivar at Lake Bolac. More resistant cultivars holding up well.

We will be repeating the fungicide resistance screens in 2020. This free service allows you to test your fungal population for resistance to all current fungicides used to control blackleg. Please go to marcroftgrainspathology.com/index.php/2020… to download the protocol/submission form.

@Steve_Marcroft We left 10ha of 120ha untreated in 44Y90. Aviator @ 800ml. No response on yield map and no visual difference. Plenty of black leg around at the time.

Canola harvest is well underway. If anyone left untreated strips after applying fungicides at 30% bloom for controlling upper canopy infection, we would love to know what yield returns the fungicides gave.

@Steve_Marcroft We did a little add-on with Susie Sprague near Wagga. 45Y91 sown early April, combinations of Aviator Xpro and Prosaro timings. Only thing significant was Aviator Xpro 650 mL/ha @ 10% bloom with yield increase of 0.17 t/ha over untreated. Susie has scored the trial for disease

@TRethus Not sure why people aren't seeing differences. We are currently getting our yield data in from all our trial sites so hopefully we will get some idea of what is going on this year. There was definitely plenty of disease around, so yield increases were definitely expected

@Steve_Marcroft Half of 160ha field treated with Aviator Xpro in 44Y90CL at 20% flower. No statistical difference, no visual difference on NDVI or yield map. Blackleg was present. 2.5t/ha. Why no response this year Steve?

@dklracing If possible, we would love to get some canola stubble from Tassie so we can look at the blackleg isolates.
