@ipaddockapps @dyerjonathan John Deere tracks were a later release than the Case but fixed a lot of issues we had with the rowtrac; no speed restrictions except on narrowest track. New Rowtrac I haven't tried but assume they've upgraded? Tracks will be jittery on rough surfaces but don't get power bounce.
English

@dyerjonathan We demod a Case 500 once and it was so smooth at speed even on stony ground, is it fair to say the Johnnie isn't quite as smooth?
English

@grheard Stores moisture gives you more confidence for the season. But last year didn't we have rain forecast a week out every week? Will it happen this time...

@brodenholland @ipaddockapps Yes regarding moving boundaries by a measured amount. Surprised it hasn't been done yet in Op Centre. @kyleplattner
English

@ipaddockapps What don't you like about editing boundaries on ops centre? What they missing? Asking genuinely I find it pretty good other than love to be able to move a line in or out by specific distance
English

Here's a fix for anyone still clinging to an old copy of JD Apex - which stopped opening in 2026.
Change your computer date to 2025 & hey presto!
We are on Ops centre now but the boundary editing & Rx features are so limited, its handy being able to flick to Apex haha #aghack

@andrewefridgway @dyerjonathan @ryan_milgate @simon_finlayson What's changed to make them worthwhile. Are they cheaper now, higher fert rates=more storage needed, can't get supply and need it predelivered? Using a Fert distributor nearby is cheaper than me building a shed.
English

Fertilizer sheds.
What are the pros and cons of sliding roof vs high enclosed sheds. Suitable for fert and grain at times.
Any experiences or help be appreciated especially after last seasons scares with sticky fert in silos. @ryan_milgate @dyerjonathan @simon_finlayson

@therealbiztang Depends on latitude Biz. QLD will be lower than SA. I plan on about 22kg/mm for the Wimmera and have seen that. Try GRDC search or #ChatBCG

Ok folks. We are off and running. New book “Succession” is on the market. @AgWatchers @Agrivetbusiness @neXtgenAgri @stationmum101 @ClarksonsFarm1 @johngbennett @dyerjonathan @TRethus @GorstRural @Warwick_Long @Meat_Watcher any help spreading the word much appreciated

@AmberB_C Snails climb to cool down. Unfortunately the inside of a steel drum that's also getting reflection off the shed is too hot and they dry out.
English

Interesting!! Snail baits can be iron chelates… i wonder why the are attracted to this rusting drum?
Tim Rethus@TRethus
White snail trap! Not very practical on a broadacre scale unfortunately.
English

@CropDoctor54 @phillisfarms @grassrootsag @WeedSmartAU @BilberryAgri @Agrifac @KalimarAg I've dabbled but @mitch_hendo is the pro. Boom cameras are closer to the target than a drone. Using a non-selective herbicide need to minimise the sprayed area. Boom can be one jet at 250mm spacing. Would a drone be so accurate? $$ Not convinced drone is good value.
English

@phillisfarms @grassrootsag @WeedSmartAU Good Q Jamie. I haven’t got experience here with drones & Tares in Vetch. @TRethus has used the algorithm, but with @BilberryAgri on his @Agrifac, I think Tim?
@KalimarAg have used their drone for Ryegrass in Lentils.
That may be a couple of leads perhaps? 🤔
English

Vetch in lentils!!!
Looking for user feedback on accuracy of drone mapping vetch for green on green spraying.
Very dissapointed with the limited number identified when this was done! @grassrootsag @WeedSmartAU @CropDoctor54

English

@dyerjonathan @grok That would be about right, lentils have just greened back up after the 28th Oct frost. 3C forecast tonight so hopefully we can sit out this one.
English

What's the latest spring frost date recorded in the Wimmera?
@grok do you have access to that kind of data?
Andrew Miskelly@andrewmiskelly
This cold front, and tonight's late-season frost under the dry air behind it, are the latest effects of ongoing negative AAO/SAM on south east Australia.
English

@MartinMurray_Ag @FarmerSimonC We have that soil too. I agree with Simon, since going no till and CTF we have less cracks...but we can still get them.
English

@TRethus @FarmerSimonC Our black soils may be different, cracks go to incredible depth
English

Conclusion is that you never need to worry about drilling over cracks, however big they are.

Simon Cowell@FarmerSimonC
Trial run over the cracks. Do I do a light cultivation or just carry on?
English

@TRethus @MartinMurray_Ag My 20 years no-till land doesn't crack like this, but as an experiment, this was ploughed last year, and cracking is the consequence.
English

@MartinMurray_Ag @FarmerSimonC An observation, if there is a dry top but moisture at depth large cracks are made (compaction layer often causes this, wheel tracks regularly). In a uniformly dry profile it doesn't generate such wide cracks.
English

@FarmerSimonC Cracks are fine for seed establishment assuming you get rain, but I’d have serious concerns about subsoil moisture and getting the crop through to harvest with cracks that large.
But that’s the difference between Aus and the UK

Every road user in country Australia needs to respond to this. In many cases, unsealed roads in Victoria are safer than poorly maintained sealed roads with dangerous shoulders and potholes. Another constraint to productivity. Submissions close Nov 10.

English

@PBoutsalis Silly question Pete
Is there something that could be sprayed or applied to paddocks to trick the entire seedbank of ryegrass to germinate...then go through with a tillage implement.
