In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded 70GBs of articles from JSTOR. He faced $1 million fine and 35 years in jail. He took his life in 2013. Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models without any punishment.

@TheUnquote @JonathanTurley Read the opinion?! So much easier to rely on the OP who clearly read it, thought deeply about it, and neatly summarized it so we don't need to read it. /s

The 1st Circuit just held that parents have no right to know about their 11-year-old changing gender in school. ca1.uscourts.gov/sites/ca1/file… This "unwritten policy" was viewed as overriding parental rights. The decision is defended as a reflection of our "pluralistic society"...

Many people need to believe Elon is very smart to preserve their ego & views on society. It's more palatable to believe that you were tricked by a super genius than to admit you've been culturally conditioned to be overly deferential to wealth & other lazy signifiers of intellect
Nate Silver@NateSilver538

He's an exceptionally smart and accomplished guy. The much better take is that high IQs serve as a force multiplier for both positive and negative traits.

@_everythingism @PrettyBadLefty We can’t. I went to MIT and know lots of geniuses. He doesn’t talk like a smart person. e.g., he doesn’t accidentally say advanced things that assume PhD level knowledge and then have to re-explain it in simpler terms. He doesn’t make esoteric observations, etc.

@PrettyBadLefty Here's a question for anyone who thinks Elon Musk is a genius (or at least very smart)... Musk has given a LOT of talks and speeches over the course of his career. Where can we hear him saying something that shows he's really smart?

@dutyfreechamp @chrisstanchak @NateSilver538 Most engineers I know think he knows nothing about engineering. I’ve heard that from software, excavation, and automotive engineers. Many of his rocket engineering claims are absurd, tho apparently some rocket scientists who work for him say he is very smart.

@chrisstanchak @NateSilver538 In what areas? Like if it’s engineering, maybe?? But not anything more general. The stuff he writes, retweets, comments on, etc. conveys an extremely low to low-mid level understanding and intellect.

@dieworkwear Oh, my sweet summer child. Markets will solve the health problems. Markets will solve all the problems. Markets will give us mixed use housing, strong healthy communities, dignity, and education. And by definition, if the market doesn’t give it, it must not be good. /s

if we want to Make America Healthy Again, shouldn't we build affordable housing in mixed use, walkable neighborhoods so ppl can incorporate walking into their daily lives instead of find the time and discipline to go to the gym?

@TaylorLorenz @Jef_The_Leftist Do you have a link to that? High quality information is getting harder and harder to find. The fundamental base rate fallacy still holds—it’s just a mathematical principle of how to use stats. But I’d like to see trends in breakthrough % among vaxxed, boosted, and unboosted.

Death Panel I think it was did a good debunk of this idea actually and showed that breakthrough deaths are becoming more common w more recent variants than the OG one and that base rate fallacy doesn't apply/explain that gap. Vax are not even matched to the current variant anymore sadly

@vasantbhatt14 “We took a chance on this part because of policy” Leopard, meet face. Did you not notice that Trump ran on racism in 2016 and again in 2024. He’s been sued for it over and over. YOU VOTED FOR AN EXPLICIT POLICY OF RACISM AGAINST BROWN PEOPLE. Own it and do better

I say this not because I can answer everyone's questions, as much as I would like to. I say this because I hope it helps you make progress. Focus less on questions like "Where can I buy quality clothes?" Focus more on "What is my aesthetic?" dieworkwear.com/2022/08/26/how…

Could maybe sub Miami for Vegas or New Orleans, it's close. Chicago isn't in the running. Seattle, Houston, Austin, and San Diego *ought* to be in the running but aren't.
