@Giant_Jouster You’re dead right. The mental weakness has killed us all season. Even after the Dundee kick off instead of keeping the ball, trying to kill the momentum we launched it out of play and gave them the ball right back. The Graham foul. Madness and then the goal.

Well if anything sums up the season it is that. But guess who will get the blame???!!! That’s the best we’ve played since August. Totally controlled it, but mentally weak ON THE PARK.

@Giant_Jouster Totally. Look at the budget we're operating with. Similar to Motherwell? Wouldn't surprise me. I would rather he trusted some of the kids more than he does. Wld much rather see Stirton and C-H than loanees, but overall, he's done better than okay all considered.

@Giant_Jouster Agree 100%. Mind my Dad saying to me in the 80s better enjoy this, it won't always be like this, and me thinking he was talking nonsense! On JG - I agree - we were a basket case and he has brought stability and more good times than bad and should be here next season.

@nessundormapod Finally managed to listen to this. Absolutely fantastic. I’m a Dundee United fan and remember running out of school to be told it was 2-2 so thought we were 4-2 up in time to see the third Roma goal. Postscript Ralph Milne was never the same player after that miss. Great episode

@Improving_Scot @The_Young_Team Related to the Fletcher boys. A few yrs ago I was at a coaching event at St George’s Park where a young Harry Gray and his Leeds team were demoing drills. I chatted to him and he spoke about wanting to play for Scotland. He’s now in the England set up.

@johnwalker_1986 The changes in the team/set-up looked to me as a result of circumstance - not through a proactive desire for change. Hence Hanley/McLean. Hanley will get lots of stick, but its not his fault he is picked when he's no longer at the level required (he's not a starter for Norwich)

Hanley - Inability to Play Forward Through Lines A lot is wrong with the opening goal but what is very clear, in a back 4, Grant Hanley cannot play at this level with the ball: · Scared to Provoke a Press · Square Passes into McKenna · Midfielders then drop in to the 3 with lack of trust · Leaves the Midfield open to a press We are not blessed with CB's but John Souttar & Ryan Porteous are much better options if you want to try and progress the ball into dangerous areas. Slovakia and Georgia underline the utter poverty of Scotland’s contribution to these Euros. Comparable populations, it was two teams with skill, an approach to the game that was clear in identity, playing on their own terms and good to watch. No reason we can’t do similar. None.

@johnwalker_1986 really enjoyed (if the right word!) you on @Improving_Scot So genuinely refreshing to hear a critical, clear eyed analysis of the current Scotland set-up, free from the nonsense fan-like stuff that has been served up elsewhere. Superb.

@DCanalysis I get and agree with most of the discussion around the lack of quality etc. but tonight that Scotland team should have been expecting to win that match. But Clarke has shown repeatedly in big games with no margin for error that he just isn’t up to it.

We had plenty of possession in the first half tonight but struggled to get into their final 3rd. This is then where developing our play can help create better opportunities to build rather than resorting to direct balls up to Adams.

Frustrating for Scotland tonight but the tournament has shown up our limitations which can only get us so far. A team reliant on being better out of possession (Germany game aside) than actually in possession.

@GrahamSpiers @gorbalsgoebbels Three games in Euro 2020 and 2024 where we have been poor in 4 out of 6 games. One World Cup playoff where we were poor. And the Euro playoff we won on penalties. When the pressure is really on and there is no margin for error Clarke would appear not to have what’s needed.

I’m a Steve Clarke fan. I think he’s a very good ⚽️ coach. But the dissenting voice at these Euros deserves to be heard. A Scotland totally impoverished in attack. 2 shots on target in 3 matches? A dull, dour, unadventurous Scotland. That is the dissenting voice. #EURo2024

@GrahamSpiers As everyone has said. This was on Clarke. His record in big games is lamentable. He’s not won a single must win tournament/play off match in 90 mins. It’s clearly a step beyond him. He set us up tonight like we had an inferior team on the pitch. Unforgivable stuff.

Typical Scotland. Paid the price for another overly cautious approach. Waited far too long to push forward and make subs. Clarke will stay in his position regardless. Another utterly forgettable major tournament.

@rajan78 Agree. We didn’t really go out to win so relied on decisions and moments . Clarke set us up like watching United playing at Parkhead. We should be aiming for better than that. There is no justification for that approach today.

@StewTodd Completely agree. It was dreadful and the better team won. Pretty simple really. This whole chat over the penalty is completely irrelevant

That was on Steve Clarke. That was a disgrace. No urgency. No dynamism. Sideways and backwards. We deserved that.

@rajan78 @SKasiewicz Totally on Clarke. The tempo (lack of), safety first approach. Lack of pace. Presumably what Clarke wanted. He needs punting.

@SKasiewicz It was mind numbing in the first half and there was no one who could actually run with the ball and take players on. That's what happens when you play 4 central midfielders

@Mrcento This is classic Clarke in a big game. He’s not got it. He sent them out to clearly play safety first. As he has done in every big game for Scotland.

Imagine Gauld coming into in a game like this.... We've nobody, bar Gilmour who's deep, who can really get their foot on the ball in the final third and thread a pass. No guile. Hoping for something from a set piece. Sledgehammers when we need scalpels.

That familiar feeling watching a Steve Clarke Scotland side in a must win game. Slow. Backwards. Side to side. Utterly depressing. But also predictable.
