@Im_RobM Yeah fucking awful, we hadn’t at the time though. And when we concede in a massive game like this, it’s so odd to me a toon fans first reaction is come on here and almost gleefully crack a joke about it

@Im_RobM About it being the fault of the team talk? How do you know that’s right? Nowt to do with hideous defending from Tonali and Thiaw to give the 4th goal away ?

@UnderTheLight73 Like to see him come good, but my Sunderland fan mates have slated his performances this season. Reckon he’s not ready and needs a championship loan

@davidpick1987 @LukeEdwardsTele @UltraStarTime Yeah it’s fitness and physicality, and the pace of the league, not to mention the intensity we play with. I genuinely think if he stays in summer, he’ll be so much better next season

@LukeEdwardsTele @UltraStarTime It gets lost sometimes but often young players play elsewhere to understand the game better. Wolte doesn’t hit me in the Joelinton does (who was an erratic finisher). He seems much calmer in front of goal and has football intelligence. I hope it pans out for him.

Newcastle have not given up on Woltemade as a central striker. They are well aware of the fact this is his first season in English football and there was bound to be a rough patch. He is being asked to do things he was not expected to do during his time in the Bundesliga, but there remains an alluring player there #nufc

What a game of football that was! The unlikely 90th minute match-winner Will Osula with an absolute stunner to end Man United’s unbeaten run and give 10-man Newcastle a well-deserved win. You couldn’t tell they were a man short in that second half, they were excellent — and didn’t let the first half decisions get to them. In fact, they fed off them. Osula will get the headlines and rightly so, but for me Trippier and Tonali were the top men on a night to remember for Newcastle… #NUFC #MUFC

@Giniesta10 Yeh but a bit of cycle if that’s who the press are insisting on asking about, and he’s answering Q’s on. Do think that comment about him finding solutions was sandwiched in between some positive comments too. Agree with you in the main, but just think it’s the click bait Journos

@StillToon Mentioned Woltemade will get them clicks and headlines worldwide, That's why they picked him, rather than Elanga or Wissa. It does also speak volumes when Howe constantly said that he doesn't want to single out an individual, that was not the case when asked about Nick

@Giniesta10 I get it to an extent, but young foreign player taking time to adjust is a weak excuse. Elanga & Wissa expected to hit ground running & keeper errors are better. Feels like people are putting too much weight in Howe saying NW needed to find solutions himself a few weeks back

@StillToon Valid question. Blaming record signing Woltemade will automatically give Howe a excuse as to why we haven't clicked offensively this season, so that's the narrative these journalist are pushing

I see the local press are still focusing on Woltemade, call me nuts but I'm starting to think this is targeted, absolutely nowt said about Pope's routine howlers, Gordon going missing, Burn having another shocker, Eddie's team selection, just seems to be Wolte

@Regista10_ He’s been poor recently, so not necessarily disagreeing with this, but how they classify dribbles, because he defo attempted a few yesterday. He was really direct

Harvey Barnes went through a Purple patch of scoring goals, some very important ones, but that patch is well & truly over And what you are left with is a wide player who doesn't have the pace or skill to beat a man No Dribbles attempted. Can't do it, won't do it. Terrible #nufc

@NUFCMurph @Regista10_ @michaeld19992 It’s 433, system & fundamentals of role not changed, but individuals have different impacts. Willock, Joelinton, Bruno & Wolte all operate differently in the role. Whether it’s Howe’s instruction to play to their to their strengths or they just have freedom I don’t know. Defo 433

@Regista10_ @michaeld19992 I still think Eddie was being sarcastic with his comments. Was just a little clapback at fans who say he never changes system. Wolte definitely was not playing the same role Bruno does.

I've been on Eddie Howe case pretty much all season But finally, FINALLY, he has relented tactically & gone 4231 using Woltemade in the hole to link the midfield & attack Should have been tried a long time ago but this change could save our season Strong finish lads 💪 #nufc

@Ledmagpie Blokes a knacker. I don’t even think he’s made any good points about Woltemade, he’s played deeper last two games and done the role well, in two big wins. He is “sacrificing” anything

Makes some good points on Woltemade, but fuck me, Gordon wants the CL golden boot, he wants to make history, any hungry player would do the same.
True Geordie@TrueGeordieTG

PENALTY GATE I shouldn’t even need to post about this given the great win we just got but it’s impossible to ignore given the reports that came out earlier about Woltemade considering his future, seeing these images it’s very obvious he’s not 100% happy. And who can blame him? He’s the Germany number 9 and Eddie Howe is playing him in midfield after dropping him as a striker earlier this season. And let’s be absolutely clear he’s playing as a centre midfielder NOT as a 10 despite many wrong opinions on this. That alone is disheartening and damaging to his career given his role for Germany. It’s quite baffling how the Newcastle fan base are just overlooking this as if it’s normal to sign a number 9 and play him as a centre midfielder. Imagine Sesko or Ektike doing this? It’s mental. We signed him for a record fee & Howe was absolutely clear he was the main striker. Anthony Gordon was stat padding against these farmers with ease, people will say that’s grounds for him to continue up front despite the piss poor opposition and track record over the last year but obviously this was a very weak opponent. 1 goal in open play in 13 MONTHS against premier league opposition, 4 goals in 45 minutes against a pub team - great night but it doesn’t disprove the last 13 months. Gordon bagged a hat-trick and refused to give the 2nd penalty to Woltemade, after both Woltemade & Trippier asked him to do so. We were out of sight & Gordon came across as someone who couldn’t give 2 shits about anyone but himself despite Woltemade playing a role that sacrificed for the team. Not the first time Gordon looked like he didn’t want to help Woltemade this season. The issues between the two are now clear as day. Woltemade looked absolutely GUTTED after the second penalty as seen in the image. He knows as a “striker” he’s judged on goals despite Eddie playing him in midfield. This was a perfect opportunity to give him a role up front and get more chances and Eddie still stuck him in midfield. A vote of no confidence… Nobody could blame Woltemade for leaving this summer as his career is going backwards under Eddie Howe and that’s a FACT. #NUFC

@GazBainbridge He absolutely does, you’re right. But feel like he was criticising Woltemade rather than tactics. Like complaining that he was deep and coming to get the ball, despite the fact Osula was playing in the 9 and Wolte was told to play deeper. Eddie even confirmed in post match

@rajsinghchohan Thoughts on how this applies to Woltemade? I think B, still looks very good on the ball, but definitely needs to improve physically

When a player comes from a different league to the Premier League, there’s a distinct difference in: A) the league being too physically quick for the player so they cannot perform their actions no matter how hard they try (they always appear reactive) And B) the player having to adjust to the speed of the league psychologically (they can still be pro-active but then the opponent is able to react to them). This difference between A and B is key to predicting if a player will improve with more time.
