Despite the Chagos surrender deal being scrapped, the humanitarian resupply vessel to Île du Coin has been boarded by heavy-handed authorities. They are refusing to allow essential items such as certain medicines and water makers to be landed. This is disgraceful, vindictive behaviour against those on the island from a government that usually claims to be concerned with human rights.

Calling out the wrong works! 📰 Welt News: The Ministry of Defense announces an exception. Men between the ages of 17 and 45 no longer need to register their travel. This puts an exception into effect, which means that "applications for stays abroad do not have to be submitted". The Bundeswehr had already promised a corresponding regulation on Tuesday and wrote: "Men between the ages of 17 and 45 do not need to deregister separately before a stay abroad."

Just 11 days after we won in court, we are now seeing what appears to be a pattern of obstruction around basic resupply. Yesterday Keir Starmer’s Gov sent police and environment officers to the island. Today they send police and immigration officers to inspect the humanitarian supply boat. Are they just checking that certain essential equipment, including a water purification unit they cruelly said the boat couldn’t take, isn’t onboard? Preventing or hindering access to basic supplies risks creating a situation where people are effectively forced off the islands by other means. Is this Starmer’s plan now? This raises profound concerns about fairness, proportionality, and compliance with the spirit of the Court’s ruling.

Where is the Songbird plan? FIP.16 proposes three stages of consensus changes, a new block builder architecture, MEV capture infrastructure, FCC integration, and signing weight overhauls. Songbird is mentioned exactly once in the entire document — in the FIRE governance voting mechanism. There is no mention of testing any of these mechanisms on Songbird first. If the Foundation has decided that Songbird's economics are too degraded to serve as a meaningful canary network testbed then say that clearly and propose an alternative. But using Songbird as the answer to "where is your canary network" while not actually using it as one for the most significant protocol changes in Flare's history is the worst of both worlds. It gives false assurance while providing none of the actual safety net. Flare needs to either bring Songbird up to date and use it for these tests, or be honest with the community about what Songbird actually is at this point and what the plan for it is.
