Statement from the Prime Minister of Denmark 🇩🇰: “I must say this very clearly to the United States: It makes absolutely no sense to speak of any necessity for the United States to take over Greenland. The United States has no legal basis to annex one of the three countries of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Kingdom of Denmark — and thus Greenland — is a member of NATO and is therefore covered by the Alliance’s collective security guarantee. We already have a defence agreement between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States that grants the U.S. broad access to Greenland. In addition, the Kingdom has made significant investments in security in the Arctic. I therefore strongly urge the United States to cease its threats against a historically close ally, and against another country and another people who have stated very clearly that they are not for sale.” Mette Frederiksen Prime Minister of Denmark

I am afraid Putin will be quietly pleased with the results of the European Council. He has effectively intimidated the EU - and the UK - into dropping an excellent plan to fund Ukraine. The reparations loan would have liberated huge sums from Putin’s frozen assets in a way that was morally and legally watertight. It would have given Ukrainians the ability to defend themselves for years to come. As things now stand the plan for a €90bn EU loan is better than nothing - but still a distant second. Chancellor Merz of Germany and Ursula von der Leyen of the EU Commission deserve congratulations for their leadership, and their willingness to stand up to Putin. It is a great shame that they were ultimately thwarted by other EU countries including, shamefully, some countries who were actually invaded by Russia in the last century. As for the UK, where have we been? We have about £15bn of Russian assets in London and yet Starmer has said nothing. We could have led the campaign. We have sat on the sidelines. It is not too late for us to act.

In 1916, during World War I, Romania sent its gold thesaurus to Moscow, for protection. 91.48 tons of bullion and gold coin. For over 100 years, the russians pretend like it never happened. This is theft. With the current price of gold, the Romanian thesaurus unlawfully held by russia would now be worth 12.7 billion €.

The bottom line remains the same What Russia fears is democracy
THE ISLANDER@IslanderWORLD

Lavrov didn’t signal flexibility. He drew the perimeter. When he says the Americans have “understood everything” and that “there can be no NATO membership for Ukraine,” this isn’t diplomacy-by-optimism. It’s a post-mortem. A decade of Western policy just quietly expired, and not at the negotiating table, but under the weight of reality it could no longer bend. Russia is no longer debating hypotheticals. NATO expansion into Ukraine is treated as a settled impossibility, not a bargaining chip. Moscow isn’t asking for assurances, it’s formalizing the outcome of enforcement. Calm language. Hard lines. That’s what power sounds like when it no longer needs persuasion. Russia never needed theatrics. That habit belongs to Western Europe’s political class— hysterical chihuahuas yapping for attention while mistaking noise for power. Great powers don’t perform. They impose facts. The same applies to Lavrov’s reference to territories “where Russians have lived for centuries.” This wasn’t nostalgia, but a cold, calm declaration. When Lavrov says these lands must “become Russian again,” he is signaling the redrawing of strategic geography, not the revival of a myth. It’s the return of history after decades of enforced amnesia. And it doesn’t stop at borders. Lavrov listed the “restoration of the Russian language” and the “rights of the canonical Orthodox Church” as non-negotiables. These aren’t cultural tokens. They are the deep architecture of civilization, bulwarks against the synthetic nationalism, imported theology, and Western social engineering that turned Ukraine into a staging ground for permanent war. Strip away the hysteria and the meaning is structural, not symbolic, no more ideological reprogramming, no more linguistic erasure, no more weaponized identity politics masquerading as sovereignty. Territory, language, faith, strategic depth, these are instruments of irreversibility, not topics for discussion. Does Russia trust the United States? No. And it doesn’t need to. The U.S. system isn’t unreliable because of historical bad faith alone, it’s structurally incoherent by design. Administrations change. Bureaucratic, Deepstate sabotage. Allies freeload and provoke. What’s speaking now is not American virtue, it’s American constraint. Moscow knows this. That’s why it isn’t negotiating for hope. It’s engineering outcomes. And notice who isn’t part of this conversation: Europe. That’s not a diplomatic snub, but a geopolitical consequence. Europe forfeited agency when it outsourced strategy to Washington and replaced statecraft with megaphone slogans. The new security architecture won’t be drafted in Brussels. It will be delivered to Brussels, finalized, signed, and sealed. Europe won’t negotiate it. Europe will be briefed. This isn’t peace. Not yet, but It’s the end of the hallucination. Russia now has an interlocutor who understands limits, even if that understanding came late. Russia isn’t naive about Washington’s neocon ambitions, it engages on the basis of constraints, not trust. Diplomacy didn’t return because the West found wisdom. It returned because force imposed discipline and silence. And if the West attempts to resurrect its illusions under new names, it will find the perimeter unchanged, only the cost has doubled.

When Claude Malhuret speaks, you know you're not going to get the usual political spin. This is a man—a doctor, a former head of Doctors Without Borders, and a French politician—who has seen the world from the front lines and knows the difference between comforting lies and painful truths. He is here to give us a necessary, perhaps even brutal, wake-up call about the most serious challenges facing Europe. He’s cutting through the noise to tell us exactly what we need to hear, not what we might want to hear. Claude Malhuret lays out the unvarnished urgency of the current moment. "Mr. Prime Minister, ladies and gentlemen ministers, I will not talk to you about strategy tonight. I will talk to you about urgency. And the urgency today can be summed up in one simple sentence: If Ukraine loses the war, Europe will find itself in direct confrontation with Russia and under the worst possible conditions. The conclusion is clear: Ukraine must not lose this war. 'Worse than the executioner is his valet,' said Mirabeau. [ French politician and orator, one of the greatest figures in the National Assembly that governed France during the early phases of the French Revolution. ] Those who are not yet convinced that Trump is putin’s valet should reflect on the latest events: an American peace plan drafted in Moscow. Witkoff advising the Russians how best to maneuver his boss, an obsession with sidelining Europeans from negotiations, a near-total halt to economic and military aid, a new national security strategy implacable against Europe and complacent toward Russia. Today, at best, Europe is alone, at worst, it faces two enemies: Russia and Trumpism. Tomorrow, in history books, we will no longer say 'Munich,' we will say 'Anchorage”. We will no longer say 'Daladier' or 'Chamberlain,' we will say Trump, who is in the process of offering the Russians through betrayal what they are failing to conquer by arms—without forgetting, of course, to enrich his family and cronies in the process. In Europe, a president with such conflicts of interest would be immediately impeached. The MAGA system is breaking all American values and forcing us to rethink all our strategic reflections, and worse still, to do so in uncertainty, at the mercy of daily changes in course based on the boss's moods. The only continuity in this senseless policy is to repudiate, humiliate, and vassalise all allies. Churchill said that there is only one thing worse than fighting alongside allies, and that is fighting without them. Trump and his real estate developers masquerading as diplomats will realise this the day they find out, at their expense, on a crisis ground, that no power in the world can do without allies. Everyone has known this since the defeat of Athens against Sparta. putin’s strategic objective is not Ukraine, it is the return to Yalta. He announced it in Munich in 2007, saying that NATO must return to its 1997 borders. Listen to Karaganov today: 'The war will only end when we have defeated Europe.' putin’s goal is not to take territory, it is to take revenge on the West and its right, to return to a world ruled by force—a Concert of Great Powers: Moscow, Washington, Beijing. Alas, this is also Trump's vision. For this, they must finish off NATO and the European Union. And the world of NATO and the EU, which seemed unshakeable, is revealing itself to be a colossus with feet of clay. Europe is alone, and for three years, anaesthetised by three decades of tranquility, hampered by its divisions and the clumsiness of its procedures, weakened by its deindustrialisation, and terrorised by putin’s threats, it has barely managed to avoid the worst. Thanks primarily to the heroism of the Ukrainians, it is time to regain control. 1/3
